Could Jensen Ackles Be the Next Batman? His Response Has Fans Buzzing

Alright, Jensen Ackles, all this talk about potentially playing Batman has us suspicious. Very suspicious. You’re voicing him, fans are begging for you to wear the black cape, and you’re even crossing your fingers too. So what’s the deal?

In case you have no idea what we are talking about, Ackles, best known for hunting monsters as Dean Winchester on “Supernatural” and blasting bad guys as Soldier Boy in “The Boys,” has once again found himself in the center of superhero casting buzz. This time, as the next potential Bruce Wayne.

And honestly? We’re not mad at it.

Jensen Ackles: The Voice of Batman Speaks

Ackles already has Gotham experience, at least in the vocal booth. Since 2012, he’s voiced Batman in several DC animated features like “Batman: The Long Halloween,” “Justice League: Warworld,” and “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” The gravelly voice? Check. Stoic attitude? Double-check. So yes, fans have long considered him a live-action Bruce Wayne in waiting!

So, what does Ackles think about potentially trading the mic for a cape?

In a recent interview with Collider, Ackles addressed the fan-fueled chatter with his trademark mix of charm and humility.

“Oh, man. I don’t know,” he said when asked about portraying Batman on screen. “It would be hard to carve out something truly unique amongst all of the performances as Batman. I would probably have to lean heavily on Gunn and whoever’s directing and whoever’s writing it, and get inspiration from the text.”

What does this mean to us? He’s not saying no. He’s saying, “get James Gunn on the phone.” PRONTO.

But of course, as expected, the Winchester brother also went on to acknowledge the immense pressure of taking on one of the most iconic roles in pop culture history.

“You talk about not wanting to fumble the football — that’s one that I would be nervous as hell to carry,” he admitted. “But also proud. A certain feather in the cap. Anybody who gets to wear the cowl, they got something.”

And when Collider’s interviewer told him they’d be crossing their fingers for him, Ackles didn’t hesitate.

“I’ll cross ’em, too,” he said with a grin. “Just say the word.”

‘Countdown,’ ‘Vought Rising,’ & One Busy Bat

While the Bat-Signal hasn’t officially shined in his direction (yet), Ackles is already stacked with exciting roles.

He stars in Amazon Prime Video’s new crime drama “Countdown” and is also reprising his role as the rugged, morally questionable Soldier Boy in the “The Boys” spinoff, “Vought Rising.”

Soldier Boy’s brand of “rough-around-the-edges” patriotism has made him a standout. His performance quickly became a fan favorite when he joined in Season 3. So, his ability to balance intensity, vulnerability, and pure chaos makes him a strong contender to take on the emotional complexity of Bruce Wayne.

Let’s not forget, this man starred in “Supernatural” for 15 seasons, 327 episodes, as the beloved Dean Winchester. He knows a thing or two about long-term commitment and fan devotion.

“I’m excited to explore what that world looks like and feels like and sounds like, and see how those characters come to life in that setting,” Ackles said about the upcoming prequel series. “I’ve been playing Soldier Boy in modern day, but I’ve been playing him like he’s kind of an old guy. He’s a grandpa from back in the day, so it’ll be interesting to now play him with contemporaries.”

Just Say the Word, DC

So, will James Gunn give him the call?

Well, Ackles hasn’t confirmed anything. But if fan support means anything, and in this case, it might, he’s a top contender in the eyes of many. He’s got the voice, the grit, and the range.

And most importantly, he’s got humility. Because while the internet continues to campaign for #AcklesAsBatman, he’s just out here crossing his fingers like the rest of us.

“Just say the word,” he said. We’re saying it loud and clear, Jensen Ackles. You were born to wear the cape.
