Counter-Strike 2 fans explore new maps and find a marijuana shop and a secret switch

Oddly, there’s no queue in front of the 420 shop in Mills (Reddit)

Fans have five new maps to play with in Counter-Strike 2 and they’re filled with secrets, including a switch that teleports you to the past.

Valve didn’t do anything to celebrate Counter-Strike’s 25th birthday last week, much to fans’ disappointment, as they were hoping for a big update, including a new operation.

A week later, however, it has released five new community maps, the first of their kind to be added to the game since Counter-Strike: Global Offensive became Counter-Strike 2 last year.

It has taken fans no time to comb through these maps, discovering a range of unexpected secrets and the promise of even more to come.

Valve’s update added new maps made by the community itself, namely Thera, Mills, Memento, Assembly, and Pool Day.

One fan found a secret switch in Pool Day, a remake of an older map in Counter-Strike 1.6. The switch is inside one of the lockers and, if you press it, it teleports you back to the original version of the map, without disrupting the game you’re currently playing.

Another fan has found a spot to activate the bomb outside of the plant site in Memento, on the right hand side of the gate.

If you throw a smoke grenade at the gate, so you’re not seen by enemies, it can be a great spot to plant the bomb without even entering the site.

Another fan has also found what they think might be the best place to throw a flash grenade on Thera.

The video below shows how you can throw any kind of grenade into this connector spot in Thera and enemies will be in trouble, either by taking damage from a incendiary grenade or a flash grenade.

A fan also spotted a marijuana shop in Mills, based in a small village in the Netherlands, called ‘420 Shop Molendijk.’

Molendijk is actually a real place in the Netherlands, where cannabis is legal to sell and buy from licensed stores.

The fives new maps are only playable in certain game modes, as listed below, according to the patch notes:

Thera and Mills added to Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch.

Memento and Assembly added to Wingman.

Pool Day added to Arms Race.

The update also makes it a lot easier to earn a skill group in Competitive, as you now only have to win two matches to get one instead of 10.

Although it didn’t come with a new operation, it’s still a good update with lots of maps to explore if you’re bored of the same old ones.

If you’re not going on holiday this summer, you can visit Santorini, Greece, in Counter-Strike 2 (Valve)
