Critics Say ‘Together’ Is Among the Best Horror Movies of the Year

Together Movie Dave Franco and Alison Brie

People looking for the next great horror movie may have one in Neon’s “Together.” It stars Dave Franco, Alison Brie, Damon Herriman, and Melanie Beddie and is centered around a couple that experiences a terrifying supernatural encounter. Early movie reviews call it a must-watch for fans of the horror genre.

“Together” comes from director Michael Shanks, and it hits theaters on July 30. However, as is usually the case, there are early showings the day before.

Movie Reviews Say ‘Together’ Should Be Experienced in Theaters

Movie reviews are more important these days than ever before, and luckily, “Together” has high ratings from critics. So far, the film has a healthy 99 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This score is based on 77 reviews from registered critics. It doesn’t currently have an audience rating on the platform.

One critic, Maitland McDonagh, said of the movie, “[A]s an oozing and dripping, leaking and creeping example of body horror, Australian writer-director Michael Shanks’ movie resonates beautiful-ugly in your mind’s eye in a way that would do Cronenberg, the prince of body horror, proud.”

Laura Clifford from Reeling Reviews said of “Together,” “Married costars Brie and Franco, who also produced, have a lot of sticky fun in what must be the first body horror film about romantic commitment, but the incorporation of the Greek mythology behind their predicament is on shakier ground.”

Joseph Robinson stated, “Together is a thought-provoking exploration of love, rendered through a lens of grotesque intimacy and unsettling transformation.”

Giving “Together” a negative review, Fred Topel wrote, “When the performances reach that level, they feel like Bruce Campbell in Evil Dead 2, willing to chop off his possessed hand with a chainsaw. Unfortunately, those moments are few and far between.”

Overall, movie reviews for “Together” say that this is a movie that deserves to be seen on the big screen. They call it smart, thought-provoking, and state that it keeps people on the edge of their seats.

Social Media Also Loves the Movie

The social media reaction to the “Together” movie is also strong. Someone who posts to X under the name Gary said, “Together is definitely a movie that needs to be seen in a theatre with a crowd, don’t miss this one. Easily one of my favorites of the year so far.”

Jerome! wrote, “Together is such a fun body horror film that is quite bizarre, especially with its final act of the film. Excellent performances from Dave Franco and Alison Brie, the premise is incredibly well executed, and it’s genuinely hilarious…and romantic!”
