Cynthia Erivo is teaming up with blockbuster producer Michael Bay for a new sci-fi action thriller titled âSaturation Point”, currently in development at Universal Pictures, according to Variety. Based on Adrian Tchaikovskyâs novella, the film centers on Dr. Jasmine Marks, a researcher who leads a search-and-rescue mission deep into a mysterious rainforest region known as âThe Zoneâ. Once uninhabitable due to extreme humidity caused by climate change, the Zone takes a darker turn when Dr. Marks uncovers a new form of intelligent lifeâone that may not be human.
The screenplay will be adapted by Minnie Schedeen, known for projects like âExoplanetâ. Erivo is producing the film under her banner Edithâs Daughter, alongside Solome Williams. Bay and Brad Fuller will produce through Platinum Dunes, the production company behind hits like âA Quiet Place” and “The Purgeâ. Both companies hold first-look deals with Universal. Studio execs Ryan Jones and Christine Sun will oversee the projectâs development.
As of now, Erivo is not attached to star in the film, which continues her expansion behind the scenes in film production.
From Stage Star to Producing Powerhouse
âSaturation Pointâ adds to Erivoâs growing resume as a producer. Her company Edithâs Daughter â which recently signed a first-look deal with Universal â was founded in 2020 with a mission to champion bold, inclusive storytelling. Led by Erivo and EVP Solome Williams, the company is behind several upcoming projects, including a remake of âThe Rose” and a series at Apple TV+.
This latest producing venture follows Erivoâs acclaimed turn as Elphaba in âWicked”, which earned her an Oscar nomination for best actress and helped cement her relationship with Universal. The studioâs blockbuster musical adaptation will continue with âWicked: For Good”, arriving Nov. 21 and reuniting Erivo with co-star Ariana Grande.
While best known for her powerhouse performances on stage and screen, Erivo is steadily expanding her influence behind the camera.
A New Chapter: Erivoâs Upcoming Book Release
Outside of film, Erivo will also release her debut book âSimply More: A Book for Anyone Who Has Been Told Theyâre Too Much” on Nov. 18 through Flatiron Books. Described as a âvulnerable and enlightening book of life lessons,â the title is structured around personal vignettes that draw from Erivoâs journey as a performer, artist and advocate.
According to People, the book is intended to serve as a guide for anyone facing self-doubt or societal pressures. âWith this book, I was hoping to provide a little encouragement to anyone who is asking themselves and challenging themselves to be simply more,â she shared in a statement.
