Singer D4vd is ‘being investigated’ as a suspect in the death of a teenage girl who was found dead in his abandoned car.
Two months ago, on September 8, police in Los Angeles were called to an impound lot following reports of a ‘foul odour coming from a vehicle’, which had been moved there two days earlier after being found abandoned in the Hollywood Hills.
Soon after it was announced that decomposing remains had been found in the boot, with the body later revealed to be that of Celeste Rivas, 15, whose family had reported her missing last year.
The 20-year-old performer – real name David Anthony Burke – was said to be fully cooperating with authorities, but is yet to make a public statement on the case.
In the weeks after the shocking discovery, the singer was dropped from festival line-ups, with shows in his own world tour also cancelled.
It’s now been reported that the Los Angeles Police Department are considering him a suspect in the teenage girl’s death.
According to TMZ, authorities have now started to investigate D4vd as a potential suspect in the case.
‘One source claims the police investigation revealed that around the Spring of 2025, D4vd took a trip in the middle of the night to a remote area of Santa Barbara County and remained there for several hours,’ the outlet shared.
It also noted that the case was being treated as a ‘possible homicide’, although there is ‘no official paperwork identifying D4vd as a suspect and authorities are still waiting on an official cause of death from the medical examiner’.
Meanwhile, a LAPD insider also told NBC4 that police believe Rivas likely died in the spring and that ‘D4vd likely had help in dismembering and disposing of the body’.
They also claimed he’d not been cooperative during the investigation to date, despite the initial statement.
It had previously been reported that Rivas had run away from her home in Lake Elsinore, California, in April last year.
Her mother told TMZ that she’d disappeared aged 13 after getting into a relationship with someone named ‘David’.
Although her cause of death has not yet been confirmed, last month the medical examiner’s office said in a statement that she ‘appears to have been deceased inside the vehicle for an extended period of time before being found’.
After the discovery of Rivas’ body, police searched D4vd’s Hollywood Hills Home, with a spokesperson confirming that ‘several items of evidence’ had been found.
Private investigator Steve Fischer previously told the Daily Mail that he had recovered strange items from inside the home that served no clear domestic purpose.
‘There were multiple of these items that could all be used together…[that] you’d never need in a Hollywood Hills home. You’d be more likely to find them on a farm,’ he said.
D4vd first rose to fame in 2022 when his songs Here with Me and Romantic Homicide went viral on TikTok.
He released his debut album Withered in April.
Metro has contacted the Los Angeles Police Department and representatives for D4vd for comment.
