Daisy May Cooper has revealed the jaw-dropping methods she took to meet her boyfriend as a teenager.

Before she became known for writing and starring in This Country, the actress and comedian grew up in Cirencester in Gloucestershire.

However, looking back at her teenage years, she’s now made a shocking admission of the lengths she took for love.

In a new interview alongside her brother, fellow actor and writer Charlie Cooper, he joked his sister ‘would be in prison if it hadn’t been for our family’.

‘There was the time you crushed up sleeping tablets and put them in Mum and Dad’s tea so you could meet a boy!’ he shared.

Admitting her actions, she explained to the Daily Mail: ‘I did, actually. I had this boyfriend who worked late in a Chinese restaurant and Mum and Dad would never go to sleep so from 8pm I’d start poisoning their tea. That’s quite dark.’

Daisy, 38, was previously married to Will Weston from 2019 until 2021, with the couple sharing two children, a daughter and a son.

Earlier this year she welcomed her son Benji with partner Anthony Huggins, 46.

Elsewhere in the interview, the siblings spoke about how, despite the huge success of This Country eight years ago, their relationship was strained.

Their mockumentary sitcom focused on the day-to-day lives of two cousins living in a small hamlet in the Cotswolds and eventually ran for three seasons.

‘I think after the success of This Country we were pulled apart,’ Charlie now admits.

‘We probably needed a break from each other, because it was quite intense working together as well as being siblings.’

Although Daisy said they never had a falling out, they ‘stopped hanging out together’.

However, they’ve now reunited for the new series NightWatch, in which they sleep over at some of the most haunted places across the UK and be told ‘all the spooky stories and chilling incidents reported at the location over the years’.

Speaking about the show, they said: ‘We’ve both had a brush with the paranormal and really do love the concept of life after death, so we thought this could be the perfect way to prove to the world that we’re not delusional. It will be a miracle if we both come out alive and well.’

However ahead of its premiere, they did confirm there were no plans to revive the show which made them household names.

‘We can’t do This Country, though, because I’ve lost so much weight and I’ve had my lips done,’ she told the Radio Times.

She continued, joking: ‘We’d have to say that Kerry’s had a tapeworm and been stung by a bee.’

Across its run, This Country was nominated for six Baftas, winning three.
