Daniel Craig has thrown his support behind one of the biggest pop stars of 2024, saying he ‘really admires’ her bravery in the public eye.

The James Bond star, 56, had nothing but praise for Chappell Roan, who has had a mixed reaction to suddenly being so prominently in the public eye.

Singer-songwriter Chappell, 26, whose real name is Kayleigh Amstutz, has seen her star rise quickly over the last 12 months after the release of her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.

She then blasted her fans for ‘normalising creepy behaviour’, received criticism for cancelling concerts at short notice, and burst into tears on stage after admitting it was hard to ‘keep up’ with her new life.

But someone who has her back is Knives Out star Daniel, who has revealed he feels more than sympathetic towards the Good Luck, Babe! singer.

‘I really admire the guts [Chappell has] to say those things,’ he told the New York Times. ‘Celebrity kills you. Really, it’s a terrible, terrible thing that can happen.’

Daniel continued: ‘I think you’ve got to really fight against all of the things that it throws in your face, because it’s so easy to be tempted.’

Speaking about the lengths artists have to go to sustain their success, he added: ‘Generating and maintaining that brand is about how much exposure you have.’

Earlier this year, Chappell specifically called out fans who demand to take photographs with her and hug her without asking, calling it ‘predatory behaviour’.

She said on TikTok: ‘If you saw a random woman on the street, would you yell at her from the car window? Would you harass her in public? Would you go up to a random lady and say, “Can I get a photo with you?”‘

‘I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever, is a normal thing to do to people who are famous or a little famous. I don’t care that this crazy type of behavior comes along with the job, the career field I’ve chosen. That does not make it okay.’

Daniel added that he knows ‘lots of tough men in this world who are vulnerable [as well]’ and revealed that he likes to put those experiences into his work.

For her troubles, Chappell has been rewarded with six Grammy nominations – including best album, best new artist, and best song.

In the UK, her debut album went to number one, while singles Good Luck, Babe! and Hot to Go both reached the top five on the singles chart, receiving Gold certification.

And next in line for Chappell could be singing the James Bond theme for the first film after Daniel’s exit in 2021 Bond movie No Time to Die.

Following her newfound fame, bookmakers currently have her at just 2/1 to become the next big name to lend their voice to the long-running spy franchise.
