Demi Moore has taken to her Instagram Stories to speak out about the passing of Robert Redford, who died at 89 on September 16, 2025. The Hollywood Reporter, which called the star a “golden boy of Hollywood,” said they learned from his publicist, Cindi Berger, that he passed in his sleep at his home outside Provo, Utah.
Moore starred alongside Redford in one of his most famous films, 1993’s “Indecent Proposal” by director Adrian Lyne. Redford, then 56, played the charming billionaire who scandalously requested to spend one night with Moore’s fresh-faced “Diana” in exchange for $1 million, which she and her husband desperately need to pay off their Las Vegas gambling debts. On the afternoon of September 16, the same day Redford died, Demi Moore shared a video clip to her Instagram Stories of the two sharing a scene. She captioned the post, “The world has lost an incredible actor, director, husband, father, and friend. Robert’s legacy will live on forever in so many ways and I will carry the many memories we share close to my heart.”
She concluded her sweet and mournful statement by saying, “What I would do for just one more dance,” before capping it off with a red heart emoji.
GettyPeople says Redford was a father to two sons who both preceded him in death. He shared both boys with his ex-wife, Lola Van Wagenen, to whom he was married from 1958 to 1985. Scott unexpectedly died as an infant at just over 2 months old, while James succumbed to cancer in 2020.
Today says at the time of his death, Redford was married to his second wife, Sibylle Szaggars, with whom he shared two daughters. The icon also left behind seven grandchildren.

In an interview discussing their famous film together, Moore gave Redford a playful compliment. When the interview declared the role of the wealthy man who propositions Moore’s character “had to be someone like Robert Redford,” she slyly responded, “Well it sure made it a lot better to look at!” before breaking into a grin.
“Scandal” star Tony Goldwyn was also among the many celebrities to comment on Redford’s death. In a video posted to his Instagram Stories, he fondly remembered the “Spy Game” star with the words, “Just an icon. One of my heroes. It’s really sad. At 89 years old, I guess that’s an incredible life he had, but it just still feels like such a loss.”
