
Musician Rick Springfield, 76, shared a surprisingly uplifting gym meeting with the legendary actor Dick Van Dyke, who at 99 is still impressing others with his vitality.
Springfield shared an Instagram post on Friday, September 26, which showed the two smiling for the camera as they both flexed their muscles.
Springfield stated he was at the gym because he was filming an episode of Menâs Health, when he spotted the actor.
âI went to the gym and who should be there but 99 year-old Dick Van Dyke working out on every machine,â he wrote alongside the image.
The “Jessie’s Girl” singer praised the “Mary Poppins” actor as he was also left impressed by Van Dyke’s workout.
âDick has lived in Malibu for about 30 years and is an awesome human being,” he added. “I thought I was doing well at 76, but Dick got up from the chest press machine and did a little dance step before I left! â¤ï¸ Amazing!”
Van Dyke Is a Fan of Exercise
During a June 2024 interview with E! News, the “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” star spoke about the importance of exercise.
“I’ve always exercised three days a week,” Van Dyke said. “I work out with weights and the treadmill also and try to keep that up. You can’t stay young forever. You can stay young-minded forever. That’s why I never grew up.”Â
He explained just how critical it is to keep moving as one ages.
He said people “they get a little stiff and sore, and it begins to hurt to move. So they just stop moving all together, and you start to age fast.”
Ted Danson Has Also Seen Van Dyke in the Gym
Springfield hasn’t been the only one to spot Van Dyke in the gym. “Cheers” alum Ted Danson talked about how he often sees Van Dyke working out in a January episode of his podcast titled “Where Everybody Knows Your Name.”
âIf I got there early enough, I would see you literally work out on some weight machines, and then â almost like you were doing circuit training â you would, not walk, to the next machine, youâd dance!â Danson said as he briefly chuckled.
He continued, âYou literally danced to the next machine! And I watched that for a couple of weeks, and finally I talked to you about your exercise, and you said that you would come to the gym and work out⦠and then you would go home and swim laps for however [long], and then you would get back into bed and take a nap.â
Van Dyke told Danson he also does a lot of yoga and stretching, as well as situp machines.
