Reality TV vet Julie Chrisley might have been convicted of fraud, but she definitely did not fake her breast cancer diagnosis.

In the latest episode of her podcast, Julie’s daughter Savannah Chrisley spoke out about a bizarre online rumor involving her mother. Some critics have alleged that the Chrisley Knows Best star fabricated her cancer battle as a way to get out of appearing in court. That’s simply not true, Savannah says.

Julie Chrisley Skips Post-Release Press Conference With Todd and Savannah Chrisley — Here’s Why

In the June 18 episode of Unlocked With Savannah Chrisley, Savannah addressed criticism of her family. (The episode was recorded before Julie and Todd Chrisley were pardoned by President Donald Trump.)

“I was getting my coffee across the street this morning and I was looking through social media. Someone commented that, you know, my family we’re this fraud, and we’re terrible human beings, XYZ,” the 27-year-old said. “And how my mother faked her breast cancer diagnosis.”

“I was literally dumbfounded,” Savannah continued. “To see that accusations like that were being made: Apparently, she faked her breast cancer diagnosis to avoid court proceedings.”

But there’s a big problem with that theory. Julie learned she had breast cancer in 2012. Her and her husband Todd’s legal problems did not begin until several years later.

“Let’s take it back,” the Growing Up Chrisley alum said. “She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. They weren’t federally or criminally charged till 2019. So that right there completely debunks your whole theory.”

‘Growing Up Chrisley’ star recalls her mother’s cancer fight

Savannah has clear memories of her mother’s cancer fight. After Julie’s doctors found cancer in her breast, she had a couple of options for treatment. She opted for a double mastectomy to reduce the chances of the cancer coming back, Savannah shared. In addition, she had a full hysterectomy.

“She basically went through menopause at the age of 39,” her daughter explained. What followed were “horrible side effects” and multiple reconstructive surgeries.

“For someone to make an accusation that my mother lied about having breast cancer at the age of 39, there truly is a special place in hell for you,” she added.

Julie discussed her cancer experience in a 2018 interview with <a href=”https://subscribe.tennessean.com/restricted?return=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tennessean.com%2Fstory%2Flife%2Fhealth%2F2018%2F10%2F01%2Fjulie-chrisley-chrisley-knows-best-double-mastectomy%2F1337060002%2F&gps-source=CPROADBLOCKDH&itm_source=roadblock&itm_medium=onsite&itm_campaign=premiumroadblock&gca-cat=p&gca-uir=false&gca-epti=z119575u117875e005500v119575&gca-ft=325&gca-ds=sophi” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The Tennessean. The reality star said she only went in for a mammogram at Todd’s urging. He was concerned after two of her friends were diagnosed with cancer and wanted his wife to get checked.

“I did it to appease him so he would shut up and leave me alone,” she said.

Todd’s instincts proved smart. Doctors discovered she did have cancer. As a mom, Julie decided that the double mastectomy was her only option.

“From the time I was literally in the sixth grade I had these huge boobs, that everybody was like, oh my gosh, Julie has these great boobs,” she said. “But I had a 6-year-old. I had to do whatever I had to do to be around for my kids.”
