Did Leanne Morgan Just Get a Second Season for Hit Sitcom?

Leanne Morgan

Fans of comedian Leanne Morgan have turned her Netflix sitcom “Leanne” into a top ten hit and a viral sensation, with some saying they’ve binge-watched the first season’s 16 episodes in one season.

Now one media outlet- Film Fanatics- is reporting that “Leanne” has been picked up for a second season.

While Netflix has not released official word of a renewal of the series, there’s good reason to hope that Film Fanatics’ inside scoop is legit.

The show has been a hit for the streaming service, with devoted fans bombarding Leanne’s social media sites with questions about when they can see more.

In an August 22 Instagram live with Kristen Johnston, who plays her sister on the comedy, Leanne told fans, “People are saying ‘are we getting a season two, are we getting a season two, we’ve binge-watched it, we’ve watched it three or four times… we don’t know yet. They’re gonna tell us soon but I hope Netflix will let us do it again.”

“It definitely should,” chimed in Kristen Johnston. “I think it’s got a lot going for it. I think they’re going to but you know, you never know what goes into those decisions.”

Leanne Morgan and Kristen Johnston Talk Comedy and Appearance

Leanne Morgan admitted during her Instagram live, “I’m always thinking about how I look. And let me tell y’all that Kristen would say to me, because she knew it was the first time I ever saw my butt on tv, and it was awful. I was like, ‘whose butt is that?’ and then I said ‘I don’t have a chin, what happened to my chin?’ and she goes ‘Leanne, don’t do that to yourself. Don’t do that. It’s about being funny. And think about Lucille Ball and her expressions and all that. And you were right and thank you for reminding me of all that.”

“Oh of course,” Kristen replied. “You know, it is a really awkward thing to watch yourself. It is. It’s awkward for Michelle Pfeiffer. It doesn’t matter how hot you are, you’re always like ‘oh my God, that flaw, this flaw, that flaw.’”

Kristen told Leanne it’s a lesson she learned on her previous hit sitcom, “Mom” with Allison Janney. “Most of the lesson I learned doing ‘Mom’ because I had gained a ton of weight cuz of my lupus medications. And I just had to like, embrace it and be like ‘this is how you look, like, get over it’ and just worry about being funny. And that’s what I did. So, anyway, it was a good lesson to learn.”

Leanne & Kristen Express Surprise Over Diverse Fan Base for the Show

Leanne and Kristen’s self-acceptance is one of the things fans say they love the most about the show.

In Leanne’s live post on social media, once commented, “We love that Leanne’s character isn’t shaped like Kate Moss. We are moms with normal bodies out here.”

Another wrote, “I haven’t laughed like that watching a tv show in a good while. Thanks for making us “mature” ladies seen!!!”

And Leanne and Kristen say they are amazed by the diversity of the fan base for the sitcom.

“You know what I’ve been hearing which thrills me? How many men love this show and that thrills me,” Leanne said.

Kristen agreed, saying, “I knew there was gonna be a super fan club of the women who are obsessed with you. So we already knew that. But the age range and race range and just all across the board I’ve gotten feedback from people just loving it.”

Season One of ‘Leanne’ Is Streaming Now on Netflix

Leanne Morgan says the success of the sitcom has been “sweeter and more wonderful than anything I ever imagined.”

If you haven’t caught it, the Netflix landing page for the show describes the plot, “When her husband leaves her for another woman, a resilient Southern mom starts over with the support of her loving, but unfiltered family.”

The series co-creator is Chuck Lorre, who has created hits like “The Big Bang Theory,” â€œYoung Sheldon,” and “Two and a Half Men.”

You can catch all 16 episodes of season one of “Leanne” streaming now on Netflix.
