Did Robin Roberts Leave ‘Good Morning America’?

Robin Roberts has left the “GMA” building…for a little while! In case you’re wondering where the famous morning host is, don’t worry, she’s perfectly safe! She’s basically been living her best life thousands of miles away in Rwanda. Yes, hand-in-hand with her wife, Amber Laign.

The beloved 64-year-old anchor, who has been with “GMA” since 2005 and officially joined the anchor desk in 2009, announced her brief absence via Instagram, revealing that she and Laign are currently on a service trip in Kigali. The trip is in partnership with the nonprofit Giants of Africa, and it’s more than just a vacation. Yes, it’s a heartfelt mission that clearly means a lot to Roberts and her family.

“We’re in #Rwanda as guests of @inmuwetrust_ & @giantsofafrica celebrating young basketball players across Africa,” Roberts wrote, alongside a radiant photo of the couple. “Every last Saturday in the month in Rwanda is a national day of service!! 👏🏽”

The real kicker? This trip is how the couple chose to celebrate 20 years together! And yes, that milestone includes “20 countries, one incredible journey,” according to Laign, who shared her own highlights from the trip.

In a recent interview with People, Roberts opened up about their decision to celebrate their 20th anniversary with gorillas, yes, actual gorillas, in Rwanda. “We thought, what better way than to be with the gorillas… in Rwanda?” she said, laughing.

But this isn’t just a romantic getaway. The couple are rolling up their sleeves and giving back, participating in community service projects and youth outreach. Giants of Africa is known to be an organization that empowers young athletes across the continent.

Amber captured the essence of the journey in her own Instagram post: “From dancing to community service that touched our hearts, this experience reminded us what truly matters: connection, purpose, and giving back.”

Roberts and Laign first met in 2005 on a blind date, and after nearly two decades of quiet devotion (and weathering some deeply personal health battles together), they tied the knot in September 2023. The couple actually announced they were getting married while on “Good Morning America,” with Roberts sharing the happy news. Since the beginning, they have been heavy advocates for LGBTQ rights and support several causes.

When Will Robin Return to the ‘GMA’ Desk?

While Roberts didn’t specify an exact date for her return, it’s clear she’ll be back soon! She can’t stay away that long; we know she absolutely loves her job! But, she’ll likely come back with some fresh and interesting stories. As well as with some renewed energy and even more wisdom. Until then, her “GMA” family and viewers are cheering her on from afar. One excited viewer went on to comment on Laign’s post, “Truly wonderful way to celebrate. You both give so much of yourselves.”

“What an uplifting & beautiful way to celebrate 20 years! Have an incredible trip,” another said. And honestly? With the energy Roberts and Laign are radiating from Rwanda, we’re not sure anyone’s in a rush to bring her back just yet!

Because sometimes stepping away from the spotlight is exactly what it takes to shine even brighter.
