Doctor Who confirms theory that BBC series completely took the mick out of Theresa May

Saturday night’s episode of Doctor Who caused a stir among fans after a main character’s dance appeared to draw a surprising parallel with former UK Prime Minister Theresa May

Billionaire Susan ‘Sue’ Triad, played by Susan Twist, appeared in the seventh episode of the 14th series over the weekend, where she walked on stage to announce the release of free software for the world.

Triad’s announcement took a sinister turn when it was revealed she and her company, Triad Technology, weren’t the masterminds behind the act, but rather the villain, Sutekh.

Despite the shock storyline, fans were preoccupied with something entirely different.

Seen awkwardly dancing as she walked on stage, the act may have been interpreted as entirely innocent for the unsuspecting fan.

However, others were quick to note that it looked very similar to May’s in 2018 when she gave her keynote speech at the Conservative Party annual conference.

Taking to X, @soppybitorag said, ‘#DoctorWho #DoctorWhoSpoilers I know a reference when I see it!’

@Coco_Cat38 agreed with the user’s claims, writing, ‘this was inspired by the Theresa May dance and you can not convince me otherwise #DoctorWho’.

While another, @bj062204, asked: ‘Why did Susan do the Theresa May dance on the stage? I enjoyed it, just unexpected and I can’t make a connection #DoctorWho’.

@Channel019 added: ‘You know, I always thought it was weird Theresa May seemed to act in a way that contradicted what a reasonable person would do, is it all makes sense now: she was being controlled by Sutekh! #DoctorWho’

Now, an audio description version of the episode appears to have confirmed the fan theory.

In a clip posted to X by TV critic @scottygb, the moment Sue walks on stage is accompanied by an audio description that says: ‘Susan steps before the cameras, breaking into a mock Theresa May dance.’

The clip, captioned ‘Love that Audio Description confirms that Susan Triad was mocking the Theresa May style dancing,’ has received more than 13,000 views since being posted early Sunday morning.

The episode—the first part of a two-part final of the show in which Ncuti Gatwa plays the Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson plays the mysterious companion Ruby Sunday—left fans shocked after the Sutekh, the God of Death, returned.

‘That was fantastic and that cliffhanger! I can’t wait for next week it’s going to be incredible!’ @jordanshortman1 wrote.

‘As a new Doctor Who fan I am scared, shook, and excited! I don’t know who the hell SUTEKH is but when I saw To Be Continued I burst into flames,’ @bella_snowden added.

The final episode is expected to be ‘devastating’ (Picture: James Pardon/Bad Wolf/BBC Studios)

Sutekh first appeared in the 1975 episode Pyramids of Mars with the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker).

With one more episode to go, showrunner Russell T Davies has previously teased this will be the ‘most devastating finale’

‘Every episode stands on its own. There will be a running theme and running story that’s going to build and build and build to ‘The Most Devastating Finale’. Literally, the biggest finale ever,’ he told SFX magazine in April.

Doctor Who returns for the season finale, Empire of Death, on Saturday, June 22 on BBC One. The rest of the series is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
