Writer, Mark Gatiss, is no stranger to the Whoniverse, but it seems like one of his most intriguing adventures is still hiding in the TARDIS archives. Yep, you read that right; thereâs a fully written 10th Doctor episode out there that never made it to air. And unsurprisingly, it seems like fans may not be done hoping for it just yet.
Gatiss, who gave us iconic episodes like âThe Crimson Horror,â âThe Unquiet Dead,â and âVictory of the Daleks,â recently shared a little behind-the-scenes gem that is sure to have âDoctor Whoâ fans buzzing. Letâs be real: anytime someone mentions David Tennant, the fandom collectively sits up straighter. But knowing there is an un-produced script out there⦠thatâs just teasing us all.
So what exactly happened to this mysterious story? Read on to find out.
The Lost 10th Doctor Adventure
In a conversation with RadioTimes, Gatiss revealed that his unproduced episode, titled âThe Suicide Exhibition,â was this close to happening back in the late 2000s. According to him, it was âon the verge of production for a whileâ but never actually got made. Honestly? The heartbreak is real.
He didnât just pitch the idea; he actually wrote two drafts. âOne set in the First World War, then Nazis⦠I just moved a war on,â he said. The premise sounds like peak Gatiss in the best way possible: a British Museum adventure with shades of âIndiana Jones.â Basically, something Tennantâs era wouldâve absolutely crushed.
And hereâs the part thatâll have fans screaming into the void: Gatiss says he still has the script.
When asked whether he still owned a copy, he simply replied, âI do.â Big Finish, the audio drama powerhouse that often resurrects Whoniverse content (like the 9th Doctor stories below) has already expressed interest. But for now, Gatiss says itâs all âgone very quiet,â joking that heâs just âwaiting for that emergency phone call!â Letâs hope that call comes sooner rather than later, because it seems like fans would be all over this one.
More âDoctor Whoâ Is On the Way
The good news? Even if âThe Suicide Exhibitionâ stays tucked away for now, the Whoniverse isnât slowing down one bit.
According to BBC, a new spin-off series, âThe War Between the Land and the Sea,â is officially set to debut December 7, 2025 on BBC One, with BBC iPlayer streaming the limited series. Sadly Disney+ viewers will have to wait a bit longer. Itâs expected on the streaming platform sometime in 2026, giving everyone plenty to look forward to as the universe continues expanding.
And because âDoctor Whoâ fans love a holiday tradition, BBCâs Director of Drama, Lindsay Salt, confirmed “Russell T Davies has agreed to write us another spectacular Christmas special for 2026,â in an October 2025 announcement. Salt also added that âthe Doctor is not going anywhere,â promising that the network âwill be announcing plans for the next series in due course which will ensure the TARDIS remains at the heart of the BBC.âÂ
Thatâs right; the future of âDoctor Whoâ is looking bright, chaotic, and delightfully timey-wimey.
