Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, has joined the long list of artists causing upheaval among fans by cancelling a tour.

The American star, 40, had a month remaining on his tour of North America, with the next scheduled show being in Austin, Texas on Tuesday.

He was then due to travel through the West Coast and Midwest before concluding the leg in Chicago on October 3.

However, the rapper has now announced that the shows will no longer be going ahead as he focuses on his health.

Taking to X with a statement, the This Is America hitmaker wrote today, one day before his next concert: ‘Hey everyone. Unfortunately, I have to postpone the rest of the North American tour to focus on my physical health for a few weeks.

‘Hold onto your tickets. ALL tickets will be honoured for the upcoming dates in North America when they are rescheduled.’

He concluded: ‘Thanks for the privacy. Thanks for the support. Thanks for the love.’

Glover did not offer any additional information about the nature of his health woes.

His message comes after a statement from his team was put out yesterday, announcing that last night’s show had also been scrapped.

It read: ‘Tonight’s Childish Gambino performance at the Toyota Centre in Houston is postponed due to illness.

‘Fans are encouraged to hold onto their tickets. All tickets will honored for the new show date.’

In the replies, fans have been sending Glover their well wishes, declaring that ‘health is wealth’.

‘Focus on your health more than anything’, wrote twosuh.

‘Take care of yourself man. Thank you for the update’, said NetCrawI.

Others did express frustration, understandably, at the short notice of his cancellation.

User newzsharer said: ‘Bruh, I bought a whole a** plane ticket, rented an air bnb’.

‘i just paid for parking for tomorrow too’, added this_is_chano.

Following his North American dates, Glover was due to travel overseas in November to Europe, then to New Zealand and Australia in January.

Fans are still awaiting confirmation that these dates will go ahead as planned, although many are not holding out hope.

Titled the New World Tour, the shows mark Glover’s ‘final’ project under the Childish Gambino persona, a pseudonym he previously claimed to have adopted from an online Wu-Tang name generator.

He also recently released an album, Bando Stone and the New World, performing its tracks for the first time when his tour kicked off in Brooklyn last month.

The singer’s gig run for 90 minutes, with US outlets noting that he’s been on top physical form and in fine voice.

His tour cancellation comes after Chappell Roan enraged fans by cancelling several gigs with just 48 hours notice.

The Good Luck, Babe! hitmaker said she was ‘heartbroken’ by the decision, writing in a statement ‘Due to scheduling conflicts, I have had to make the extremely hard decision to cancel my Paris and Amsterdam shows.’

She added: ‘I have rescheduled my Berlin show to 23 September. I am so sorry & very disappointed. I promise I will be back. I’m heartbroken. Thank you for understanding.’

While some fans were understanding, the overwhelming majority were not, slamming her ‘disrespectful’ behaviour given that the shows were due to take place on September 3 and 4.

Chappell has since shared on social media that she’s in rehearsals for the MTV VMAs, causing further outrage in her fanbase, who feel she ditched them for the bigger opportunity.

And that’s not all as, last week, Catfish And The Bottleman cancelled a gig just 15 minutes before venue doors were due to open.

A statement said this was due to ‘artist illness’, but fans asked why the announcement could not have been made sooner.

One said they had forked out £500 on a hotel to stay over in Dublin for the gig, while others were already inside the venue when they received the news.
