The breaking news was shared by Wahlberg on his Instagram account. In the post, Wahlberg said he was excited to have his dear friend and TV sister, Bridget Moynahan, join him during the premiere episode of “Boston Blue.”

In addition to the guest appearance, Moynahan will also be directing some of the episodes this season. Wahlberg ended the post saying, “More fun (and surprises) to come. 👀 Let’s go! 💙❤️” What other surprises might CBS and Wahlberg have up their sleeves?

The Spin-Off Fans Wanted

With “Blue Bloods” coming to an end in December 2024, fans of the show didn’t want it to end. In its place, CBS decided to give Wahlberg a spin-off and keep the character, Danny Reagan, on the air.

In “Boston Blue,” Wahlberg returns to his role as NYPD Detective Danny Reagan, who has made the move to Boston to join the city’s police department. Once in the city, he is partnered with Detective Lean Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a well-known law enforcement family.

In addition to Danny relocating to Boston, another Reagan will be joining him. His youngest son, Sean Reagan, will also be making the move. Variety reported Sean has “relocated to Boston to start a new chapter as a Boston PD patrolman. Sean committed himself to pursuing his family’s legacy but wanted to do so on his own terms, which meant joining a department outside of his hometown. Danny’s decision to stay in Boston gives this father and son duo a chance to reconnect on a deeper level.”

However, the role of Sean, which Andrew Terraciano played for 14 seasons, has been recast. Mika Amonsen will be stepping into the role of adult Sean. Amonsen has done guest roles on shows like “Reacher,” “Suits,” and “Designated Survivor,” but this is definitely his biggest role yet.

In addition to Wahlberg, Martin-Green, and Amonsen, “Boston Blue” also stars Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver, Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, and Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters.

“Boston Blue” premieres on CBS on Friday, October 17, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, with Moynahan directing the episode, which she has done many times during “Blue Bloods.”
