Drake accused of sinking to ‘new low’ with awkward post about Gracie Abrams

If there’s one thing you can count on Drake to do, it’s say something that makes the internet tilt its head, squint, and mutter, ‘…why?’

This week, the 38-year-old rapper has once again managed to split the crowd, thanks to an Instagram Story that was either a sweet gesture, a questionable overshare, or both – depending on who you ask.

On Monday, Drake posted a photo of 25-year-old singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams, followed by a picture of himself on stage with a similar brown birthmark visible on his arm.

The caption read: ‘I used to hate my birthmark but Gracie got the same one. Now it’s art.’

It’s unclear whether the pair have any relationship beyond mutual artistic appreciation, but Drake’s admiration for Abrams – who is currently dating actor Paul Mescal – isn’t new.

Back in March, he reposted lyrics from her song I Knew It, I Know You, praising the ‘[GOAT]’d beat switch’ and dropping a string of emojis to describe the song — a sad face, exploding head, and blue heart.

While the birthmark comment might have been intended as a moment of poetic vulnerability, many fans weren’t feeling it.

‘A new low. Even for him,’ wrote X user @hunteryharris.

‘I know a lot of bad things are happening lately but Drake posting about Gracie Abrams feels the most indicative of the end times drawing near,’ joked @puketrilli.

‘He’s so embarrassing, just say you like her music and go,’ posted @lnjectie, while @pamela_lpz_ added: ‘Someone needs to take this man’s phone. It’s embarrassing.’

Still, not everyone saw it as creepy.

Some followers defended the sentiment, with @0xRavaillac writing: ‘Drake finding beauty in shared imperfections is a mood!’ and @haniaeheofficil agreeing: ‘That’s actually kinda poetic — leave it to Drake to turn a birthmark into a love lyric.’

Drake has a long history of publicly fixating on younger female artists – from shoutouts to Billie Eilish early in her career to his praise of Ice Spice and others – which has sometimes raised eyebrows.

Whether this latest post is harmless appreciation or another weird Drake moment is a matter of personal interpretation.
