Eddie Murphy fans ‘pleasantly surprised’ as Netflix revives classic 80s franchise

Eddie Murphy has reprised one of his most iconic roles for a new film, and fans have truly never been happier.

The Hollywood legend dusted off his police badge and returned as Axel Foley for the fourth movie in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise.

The flick, aptly titled: Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, was released on Netflix this week, 40 years after the first instalment hit the big screen.

While the critics have been mixed with their reviews, viewers couldn’t help but lap up the 80s nostalgia and are already planning a second watch.

Flocking to Reddit to share their thoughts, PurplePaws619 raved: ‘It took forever for Eddie to make a good follow up movie but this was good. This is well worth your time.’

GibsonMaestro agreed: ‘Much better than part 3 and a well done legacy sequel. It felt like an extension of the original series and was absolutely worth my 90 minutes.’

‘Honestly felt like an old 80’s cop movie and that’s exactly what I wanted when I put the film on. 80’s style bad guy, 80’s style plot, and an 80’s style shootout at the end,’ Heyitsmejosh penned.

Aging_genxer replied: ‘I was actually pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it. The tone felt very similar to the first two movies, it almost felt like an 80s flick. There were legitimate funny parts, and I liked that there was a progression in the characters and their relationships.

‘I’m sure getting it right was a tough nut to crack, and I thought they did a great job. Not perfect by any means, but pretty damn good.’

As Bhenchie added: ‘Thoroughly Enjoyed it. I am a big fan of the original trilogy and this one is very much a Beverly Hills Cop movie through and through! I was signing at the top of my lungs when the unforgettable sound of The Heat Is On played at the beginning! The soundtrack in these films is just *chefs kiss*.

‘It’s just a pleasure seeing Eddie in a role where he’s clearly at his comedic best and enjoying himself.

‘The only thing that was missing was that ICONIC laugh! It’s a shame he decided to retire it! Its good to have it back on our screens! I will be watching it again tonight! [sic].’
