In 1994, the then-young actor played the title character in the film “North.” Wood joined a truly star-studded cast for the picture, but there was also a beloved director at the helm: Rob Reiner.

The somewhat zany comedy about a boy who hits the road in search of better parents includes memorable performances by Reba McEntire, Jason Alexander, and many others. It was also an early entry on the resumes of fellow child actors Jussie Smollett and Scarlet Johansson. The film was one of seven Reiner directed in the 90s. Although it didn’t reach the acclaim of some of his more memorable pictures of the decade (like “A Few Good Men”), it now stands as a fun piece of nostalgia.

Wood is far from alone in his desire to pay tribute to Reiner; stars from across Hollywood have taken to social media to express their sadness and offer support to the family. For example, fellow “Lord of the Rings” trilogy actor Sean Astin made a statement following the news of Reiner’s death, remarking on the director’s legendary contributions to the film industry.

Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, leave behind four adult children, as well as countless fans and heartbroken colleagues. In the hours and days following the director’s death, one thing became abundantly clear: he will be remembered fondly not just for his legendary body of work, but for the positive impact he had on those around him.
