Sir Elton John has shared a photo of his and David Furnish’s two sons for the first time on social media.
The British music legend, 78, has been in a relationship with Canadian filmmaker David, 63, since 1993, with the couple amongst the first to form a civil partnership in the United Kingdom before marrying in 2014.
They then went on to welcome two sons from the same surrogate – Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John in 2010, and Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John in 2013.
Since their births, the boys have featured on Sir Elton and David’s social media accounts, but only in photos with their backs to the camera or with their faces obscured.
However, this week Sir Elton shared a full photo his sons, sharing a snap of them celebrating New Year’s Eve.
Posting three photos on Instagram, the musician captioned the post: ‘Thank you @donatella_versace and @edward_enninful for hosting us for a fabulous New Years Eve party! A perfect way to see in 2026 🚀✨.’
The Italian fashion designer hosted a party in London on Wednesday night alongside Edward Enninful, the former editor-in-chief of British Vogue.
Sir Elton’s first photo showed him sitting at a table with Donatella, while the next had him laughing with his husband and a friend. The final showed the couple posing with Donatella and their two sons – now aged 14 and 12.
The two boys were dressed up too – wearing suits for the festivities.
Commenting on the post, Donatella wrote: ‘I love you so so much Elton! No better way to start 2026.’
Meanwhile David also shared the same family photo on his respective Instagram alongside a message from their family that read: ‘All the F-J’s want to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!’
Fans of the singer commented on the post, with many exclaiming how the boys looked ‘so grown up’.
‘Happy New Year Elton, David and family. Wow your sons are so handsome and grown up. You must be so proud. All the best to you in 2026,’ Corine wrote.
‘Wow, Elton and David’s boys are getting big! Happy New Year to the 4 of you,’ Scott added.
Although Sir Elton and David have largely kept their sons out of the public eye, the performer offered a rare insight into his family life and how he decided to retire from touring two years ago due to wanting to spend more time with them.
‘For me personally, I’ve had an amazing life, great career,’ he told Andy Cohen in 2024.
‘Incredible achievements, music, blah, blah, blah, but I would say that our sons, and David, are the most important things to me.’
‘That’s why I came off the road, to be able to spend the latter part of my life being there for them.’
Meanwhile David told Entertainment Tonight that same year that they both didn’t want to miss any of their sons’ milestone moments.
‘We’ve got our sons. They’re getting into their teenage years now. We don’t want to miss anything. We want to be present for that. It’s sort of a key decade in a child’s life,’ he explained.
Speaking about his husband’s career, he added: ‘He’s been doing it for like 60 years. So, it’s nice to have that time to spend at home with family.’
Last year, in March, the family all posed for photographs on a red carpet while attending Sir Elton’s 2025 Oscars viewing party, marking a rare appearance for them all together.
When welcoming their first son in 2010, the couple shared a statement that read: ‘We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment. Zachary is healthy and doing really well, and we are very proud and happy parents.’
Following the birth of their second three years later, they told Hello! magazine: ‘Both of us have longed to have children, but the reality that we now have two sons is almost unbelievable. The birth of our second son completes our family in a most precious and perfect way. It is difficult to fully express how we are feeling at this time; we are just overwhelmed with happiness and excitement.’
In the past Sir Elton has said his sons gave him a ‘purpose’. In 2022 he then penned a letter to them in Time magazine, in which he wrote: ‘Zachary and Elijah, you two are the greatest gifts I have ever been given. You have filled my heart with love and my life with purpose and meaning in ways I didn’t think were possible. You are my proudest achievements, and I love you both so, so much.’
In the 2024 documentary Elton John: Never Too Late, he also spoke about how they are ‘not interested in being in the limelight’ too.
A few years earlier Sir Elton – who is worth an estimated £320million – also told OK! Magazine he was raising his sons ‘working’ class.
‘They come from a well-off background, which will afford its own advantages. I came from a very working-class background where I had to work for everything I got, and I want to instill those same values in them. But it’s harder growing up in this world and David and I are very mindful of that.’
‘They’re fantastic young boys, they have good hearts and compassionate, kind personalities,’ he added.
