We’ve been fortunate to catch glimpses of Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Stanley Tucci walking the streets of New York as their “The Devil Wears Prada” characters. Miranda Priestley, Andi Sachs, and Nigel Kipling are back! But many fans have been eagerly awaiting a glimpse of Emily Blunt on the set of “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” The actress played the self-absorbed, fashion and weight-obsessed Emily Charlton. The breakout role was a highlight of the first film and made Blunt famous overnight.
Everyone can rejoice, because Blunt was finally spotted on film. She looks very much like the chic style icon we imagine Emily is today.
Blunt’s Bold Return: Emily’s Iconic Red Hair and Dior Glam
Seen on set with Hathaway, Streep, and Tucci, Blunt is back, sporting Emily’s red hair and in head-to-toe Dior. She was wearing pinstripe pants and a matching corset top. Layered on top was a white, collared shirt with the word ‘Dior’ peeking out. Carrying an oversized black bag and wearing sunglasses, she looked like the cutthroat assistant we remember — but with even more confidence.
Blunt has been coy about Emily’s current position. She joked to “Entertainment Tonight’s” Rachel Smith that she “hasn’t even read a script.” Smith asked her about the rumored Miranda and Emily rivalry plotline, and Blunt pretended to be bewildered.
“God, why are Meryl and I always so mean to each other in every movie we do?” she asked Smith. She and Streep have also starred together in “Into the Woods” and “Mary Poppins Returns.”
“We always have beef with each other. I don’t know what it is. Let’s hope we remedy it,” she continued. She then admitted that she wasn’t allowed to say anything about the new film.
The Surprising Longevity of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Quotes
Blunt has been very open about how unprepared she was for the phenomenon that “The Devil Wears Prada” became.
âI just didnât know anything back then,” Blunt told “Deadline.” “I remember my agent calling me on the opening weekend and saying, âIt made thisâ. I was like, âIs that good?â When we were filming it, we were weeping with laughter every day. We thought we were making something funny⦠but I didnât know that it would become this thing that would catch fire in the way that it did⦠itâs quoted to me every week now.â
Of all the characters, Emily’s quotes are some of the most memorable. On “Variety’s Actors on Actors,” Blunt and Hathaway revealed that some favorites were improvised. “I’m just one stomach flu away from my goal weight,” and “I love my job, I love my job, I love my job” were some phrases created by Blunt.
