Emma Stone Shares Untold Memories From 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Movies

More than a decade before becoming a two-time Academy Award winner, Emma Stone was stepping into one of the most beloved superhero worlds. Cast as Gwen Stacy in “The Amazing Spider-Man” opposite Andrew Garfield, Stone joined director Marc Webb’s 2012 reboot at a time when she was already gaining acclaim for films like “Easy A” and “The Help.” She would go on to reprise the role in the 2014 sequel, leaving a lasting impression on fans of the franchise.

Emma Stone Reflects on Her Time in the Spider-Man Universe

While reflecting on her career during a Vogue interview, Stone was reminded of her time in the “Amazing Spider-Man” films when she was shown a photo from the 2014 London premiere of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” The moment brought back memories of playing Gwen Stacy opposite Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker, and of working with a team she still remembers fondly.

“I really loved doing Spider-Man. I loved everybody I worked with,” she said, recalling how the experience introduced her to Garfield, “I met Andrew [Garfield] there, I met Sally Field, Marc Webb was wonderful. It was a really special time in my life.”

For Stone, the relationships built during those years stand out more than anything else. “That’s the recurring theme, the people more than kind of the film itself is what sticks with me for so long. I have only the fondest memories of this experience,” she added.

After her time in the “Amazing Spider-Man” series, Stone’s on-screen connection to the franchise resurfaced in 2021 when Andrew Garfield reprised his role as Peter Parker in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Although Stone did not appear in the multiverse crossover, the film revisited Garfield’s version of the character and even acknowledged Gwen Stacy’s tragic fate, giving fans a moment of emotional closure. For many, Garfield’s return also stirred nostalgia for his and Stone’s chemistry in the earlier films.

From Gwen Stacy to Oscar Wins and Acclaimed Roles

Since her tenure in “The Amazing Spider-Man” films, Stone’s career has only soared higher. She went on to star in critically acclaimed projects like “Birdman” and “The Favourite,” the latter earning her an Academy Award nomination. Her role in “La La Land” secured her first Oscar win, solidifying her as one of Hollywood’s most versatile leading ladies.

She has since reunited with director Yorgos Lanthimos for “Poor Things,” which earned her a second Oscar win, and she continues to choose projects that balance bold artistic risks with mainstream appeal. Stone’s recent turn in the series “The Curse” and her role in “Kinds of Kindness” further showcase her range, proving that she has successfully transitioned from superhero stardom to some of the most daring performances of her generation.
