An ambulance worker has been praised for her ‘heroic’ effort to help a panicking man deliver a baby over the phone.
Ambulance, which follows the work of ambulance services around the UK, returned to BBC One on Tuesday night for its latest series.
Delving into the dilemmas and pressures that emergency services face on a daily basis, the episode proved to be a tearjerker within just minutes.
After viewers were introduced to call handler Ellie, the worker received a dramatic phone call on her final shift before becoming an Ambulance Support Worker.
A man, who was in a total state of panic, needed assistance in helping his wife to deliver their baby.
His voice can be heard over the phone saying: ‘She’s actually about to give birth. What should I do?’

Remaining calm, Ellie went on to give the man the information he needed to deliver the baby.
The call handler told him: ‘Now, if the baby delivers, support the baby’s head and shoulders. The baby will be slippery so don’t drop it, okay?’
The panicked man went on to say that he could no longer see the baby’s head, which prompted one of Ellie’s colleagues to ask if his wife is having contractions.
After Ellie assured the man that help is on the way and the ambulance would be arriving to his house, the man could be heard saying: ‘Chels, keep pushing… you’re doing amazing. That’s it.’
Shortly afterwards, the man revealed that the baby had been safely delivered and the baby was breathing and crying.
‘He’s here, Chels. He’s here,’ the man said excitedly, before he expressed his thanks to Ellie.
Taking to social media, viewers were quick to share their reaction to the emotional moment.

Throughout the series, viewers are shown what the day-to-day operations are like from the point of view of people in control rooms and crews on the streets.
Cameras also capture the cases from the initial first call to the arrival of the ambulance and what happens after.
Ambulance is available to stream on iPlayer and airs on BBC One on Tuesday at 9pm.
