'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' Casting Updates

SPOILER ALERT !!! This post contains potential plot spoilers for “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” film.

Work on the latest addition to “The Hunger Games” film franchise is seemingly well underway, with new cast announcements for “Sunrise on the Reaping” dropping at a near daily rate. The film, which is set to hit the big screen on November 20, 2026, will be the sixth film in the franchise that has amassed more than $3.3 billion in revenue since the first film debuted in 2012.

Cast announcements for the upcoming film began dropping on the official “The Hunger Games” TikTok page on April 23, barely a month after the release of the “Sunrise on the Reaping” novel on March 18. The novel follows a 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy, who was Katniss Everdeen’s mentor in the original “Hunger Games” trilogy, as he is selected to compete in the 50th Annual Hunger Games.

The latest addition to the series sees the return of characters like Haymitch, Effie Trinket, President Coriolanus Snow, and Caesar Flickerman, as well as introducing new faces to the “Hunger Games” universe. But who will be playing the cast in the upcoming film?

Here’s every cast announcement for “Sunrise on the Reaping” we’ve gotten so far.

Lenore Dove Baird – Whitney Park

22-year-old Ugandan-Canadian actress Whitney Peak kicked off the series of casting announcements that have taken TikTok by storm since April 23. The actress, who has appeared in projects like “Hocus Pocus 2” and HBO’s “Gossip Girl reboot, was revealed to be playing the role of Lenore Dove Baird in “Sunrise on the Reaping.”

Lenore is Haymitch’s girlfriend in District 12 when he gets reaped for the 50th Hunger Games, a Quarter Quell that requires the districts to sacrifice four tributes instead of the typical two. While Lenore is a new character in the film franchise, she is related to “Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” protagonist, Lucy Gray Baird, who was played by Rachel Zeigler in the 2023 film.

Haymitch’s character is well-known to “Hunger Games” fans, with Woody Harrelson originating the role in the first film in 2008. With the new film focusing on Haymitch as a tribute in the Games, the lead role went to 20-year-old Australian actor Joseph Zada.

Playing a younger version of Mags will be 58-year-old actress Lili Taylor, who has previously appeared in iconic horror franchise projects like “The Conjuring,” “The Nun” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Leatherface.”
