“Buffy the Vampire” fans received news in February that a reboot was in talks, per Deadline.
The publication reported that the show was close to being green-lit for a pilot, starring the original series’ star, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers.
Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao was announced as the director, with “Poker Face” writers Nora and Lilla Zuckerman as the pilot screenwriters.
In February, Gellar confirmed the news on Instagram. “Three years ago, I got a call from my dear friend and mentor, Gail Berman. She told me that she wanted me to sit down with Chloé Zhao to hear her take on a potential âBuffyâ revival,” she wrote.
“I was blown away that Chloé even knew who I was, but, as Iâve always done, I told Gail that I just didnât see a way for the show to exist again,” Gellar continued.
Gellar revealed that she and Zhao had met and talked for hours. While nothing firm was agreed upon, the “Cruel Intentions” star agreed to think about the reboot.
“This has been a long process, and itâs not over yet. I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do it right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there,” Gellar promised.
Ryan Kiera Armstrong Has Officially Joined the New ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’
On May 15, Gellar shared an Instagram reel inviting Ryan Kiera Armstrong to join the new cast of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
“How do you feel about helping me save the world?” Gellar asked Armstrong. “You want to be my chosen one?” she continued. Holding back tears, Armstrong nodded and told Gellar, “Yeah.”
“Ryan, we all love you, and from the moment we all saw your tape, there was nobody else in our eyes that could do it, that we wanted to do it with, and I’m so excited to stand by your side and have you be my partner on this journey,” Gellar said.
The ‘Buffy’ Reboot Is Underway
While the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot is coming along, fans may have to wait some time for the show to air.
“We’ve set up our offices, which means things are progressing probably faster than I’d anticipated,” Gellar told People on May 15.
She added, “But it’s going to be a process, I think. To do it the way it needs to be done, everyone has to be patient with all of us, because this isn’t something that [will just happen].”
