While at Venice Film Festival, Jacob Elordi was hit with criticism over a short ‘super rude’ exchange but fans have rallied around him.

The Euphoria star, 28, was on the red carpet at the world premiere of his upcoming film Frankenstein, greeting fans on Saturday.

As he tried to sign autographs and take selfies, he seemed to clash with a nearby man who has been described as a bodyguard.

‘Hey, go away,’ he said to the man who walked over to the star, who had already got a fan’s phone in his hand to take a selfie.

After a little back and forth, Jacob sternly insisted he was ‘going to take a picture right here’ then added: ‘Don’t tell me what to do.’

Initially, he received some backlash for his harsh tone with the stranger, given how unprovoked the response was.

In the comments of one clip, the Daily Mail claimed one fan wrote: ‘That was really super rude of Elordi.’

Another reportedly said: ‘I find it to be a little disrespectful towards an old man trying to do his job unless they have an understanding.’

‘Ladies, I fear we have created a DIVA,’ read another comment as well as ‘He thinks his ego will protect him like a force field… until it doesn’t!’

However, most of the comments seen by Metro appeared to be praising the star for ‘putting his fans first’.

‘As he should though! he always puts his fans first and that’s so so genuine and sweet,’ wrote fan account Rosaelordi, posting a clip to TikTok.

Adriana added: ‘I love Jacob standing up for himself and love his fans 🥰🥰🥰🥰.’

Carolina River said the security should ‘let him have his moment’, as the star of the film being premiered.

Others dubbed him ‘the people’s prince’, while Mia called him ‘so adorable’ and ‘nice and sweet’ to the fans who had been waiting.

At the premiere, Frankenstein earned a 13-minute standing ovation — the longest of the 2025 festival thus far.

Directed by Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, the Saltburn icon plays the Creature opposite Oscar Isaac as the titular Victor Frankenstein.

While Jacob hails from Australia, his version of Mary Shelley’s infamous monster has flecks of a Yorkshire accent in his voice.

At a press conference, attended by Metro‘s film reporter Tori Brazier, Jacob shared that his flatter, shorter vowel sounds in words like ‘blood’ and ‘pumping’ were a deliberate nod to the accent.

David Bradley, who plays the blind man, is from that part of the world – so when the creature learns to speak, there are little bits and bobs [in there],’ he explained of his character’s voice.

He was thrilled it was noticed so quickly, having only had three weeks to prepare for the role after Andrew Garfield’s exit.

Speaking about why he was drawn to the character, Jacob gave a stunningly deep response, sure to excite any literary scholar of Shelley’s 1818 novel.

He shared: ‘The reason I was drawn to it, is it’s a vessel that I can put every part of myself into, everything that’s unconscious from the moment I was born to being here with you today, all of it is in that character.

‘And in so many ways, the creature that’s on screen in this movie is the purest form of myself.

‘As a performer, if you can achieve that in something that you think you’re going to get lost in, if you can find yourself in a character that you plan to get lost in, I think that’s a really beautiful thing that can happen – and that’s what happened to me. I’m only realising that now, in hindsight.’

Frankenstein will be released in select cinemas on October 17, before streaming exclusively on Netflix from November 7.
