“The Cosby Show” star Malcolm-Jamal Warner tragically passed away at the age of 54, and many fans took to Instagram after the news broke, commenting on some of his pinned and recent Instagram posts.

“I am so heartbroken. He was a great man. Rest in Power. #NBFT Family. Midnight Poetry,” one fan wrote.

“I’m crushed! Prayers to his family,” another fan commented.

“From the moment we first saw you as Theo Huxtable, it just felt like we knew you. You brought something real to the screen. Thanks for the memories and making us laugh. RIP,” one person said.

“Rest In Heavenly Peace 😢🕊️🙏🏽🙏🏽,” a fan wrote.

“Im so sorry. Sending all the friends and family love and light at this time ❤️,” another fan said.

“Say it ain’t so! Not our Theo!!!! 😓😓😓😓 RIP 🕊️,” someone commented.

TMZ first reported the news of Warner’s death, saying it was an accidental drowning. ABC News then followed that up, reporting that Warner drowned off the coast of Costa Rica on Sunday while on vacation with his family, with his cause of death being determined as asphyxia.

Along with playing Theo Huxtable, the son of Bill Cosby’s character, Heathcliff Huxtable, Warner went on to star in numerous other shows. He is known for his roles on “Reed Between the Lines,” “Malcolm and Eddie,” “The Resident,” along with voicing “The Producer” character on “The Magic School Bus.” He also has the “NOT ALL HOOD” podcast, which “takes a provocative look at the vastly different lived experiences and identities of Blacks in America.”

He earned an Primetime Emmy nomination in 1986 for his supporting work on “The Cosby Show.”

While he began acting at the age of nine, Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s impressive career also includes being a Grammy-winning musician.

In 2015, he won best traditional R&B performance for his song, “Jesus Children,” and also earned a nomination in 2023 for best spoken word poetry album.

In a 2017 interview with CNN, Warner detailed how being a new father helped his music career. The actor, who passed away on Sunday, leaves behind his wife and daughter.

“Being a new parent, I have a lot of new material for the music,” he told the outlet. “It’s really awesome and right now, my daughter’s four months so I don’t have to tell her ‘no.’”
