Willow has been open about her identity in the past, coming out as bisexual in 2019 and later clarifying in April 2024 that she identifies somewhere between “heterosexual” and “bi/pansexual.”

She’s also shared that she mostly identifies as female but leans slightly toward non-binary, encouraging fans to embrace their own fluidity and self-discovery.

A Family Known for Unfiltered Expression

The moment drew comparisons to her brother Jaden Smith’s history of cryptic, sometimes philosophical social media posts. One of Jaden’s popular posts included his now-famous line, “How can mirrors be real if our eyes aren’t real?”

While Willow’s true intent remains unclear, her emotional post has left fans both intrigued and concerned, and eager to see her surrounded by support.

Willow On Why She Chose Polyamory & How Mom Jada Pinkett Smith Supports Her

Willow, who has always had an unfiltered take on life, has previously spoken about being polyamorous, first opening up on the topic in 2021. Polyamory is when all partners agree that it’s acceptable to have more than one romantic relationship at a time.

Speaking on Red Table Talk with her mom, Jada Pinkett Smith, and grandmother Adrienne Banfield-Norrison, the singer shared that she would likely limit herself to no more than two partners. “The history of marriage really irks me. Just the history of marriage as a whole and what it has represented over the years, for women in particular,” she said.

“With polyamory, I feel like the main foundation is the freedom to be able to create a relationship style that works for you and not just stepping into monogamy because that’s what everyone around you says is the right thing to do. So, I was like, ‘How can I structure the way that I approach relationships with that in mind?’”

She added that her research into the subject revealed “the main [reason] why divorces happen is infidelity.”

Jada, who revealed last year that she and Will Smith have been separated since 2016, recently discussed her daughter’s relationship choices on Danielle Robay’s Pretty Smart podcast. When asked if she would approve of Willow having an open relationship like hers with Will, Jada replied, “If it’s going to help her become the woman I’m becoming.”
