Emma Stone made headlines when a bee flew near her face at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17 while promoting her film “Eddington.”
While posing on the red carpet with her co-stars Pedro Pecal, Joaquin Phoenix, and Austin Butler, a bee got too close to Stone, causing her to grimace and dodge the flying insect.
Pop Crave posted shots of the incident on X, causing buzz amongst fans. “Poor girl, look at her face. That bee was definitely her nemesis in its past life,” one sympathetic fan wrote.
Another fan thought Stone lost to the bee and replied, “Emma: 0 Bee: 1.”
One posted, “Emma Stone, surviving a red carpet bee attack, is going down as one of my all-time [favorite] celebrity photos.”
A fan praised Pascal and Butler for their heroic feats in shielding Stone from the stinger and shared, “Emma Stone is living out all of our fantasies while Pedro Pascal and Austin Butler protect her from a bee on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet!”
Reddit users also loved the relationship between Stone and her “Eddington” castmates. “Austin and Pedro protecting her from the bee,” one wrote.
Another noted, “Thereâs just something extra wholesome about how Pedro is smiling! Heâs like a golden retriever got its dream job and is thriving.”
‘Eddington’ Received High Praise
After its debut at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, “Eddington” received a standing ovation, Variety reported.
Filmmaker Ari Aster said, “I donât know what to say. I donât know what you think. Sorry, I guess? Thank you, I guess? I feel very privileged to be here. This is a dream come true. Thank you so much for having me.”
Stone Opened Up About Channeling Her Anxiety Into Acting

Stone opened up about how she uses acting to help with her mental health issues. “Acting is therapy, especially as a kid, it was nice to have an outlet like that when I was really struggling with panic attacks. Being on stage early on made me less afraid to try things that are challenging and scary,” she told The Talks.
“I wouldnât say that performing is a cure for anxiety, but when you have excess energy that turns inward and makes you an over-thinker, you can begin to panic,” she said.
Stone used her role in “Cabaret” as an example and when she had to perform a monologue, it allowed her to forget everything around her.
“I was screaming the song. It transported me like I was being alone in my bedroom, but I was on this stage in Studio 5,” she recalled.
Stone continued, “Itâs definitely gotten better as time has gone on. Iâm not so hard on myself â a lot of it was the pressure that I would put on myself.”
