The official cause of legendary rocker Ozzy Osbourne‘s death has been ruled as a heart attack. Osbourne’s death certificate was filed in London and provided to The New York Times by his daughter Aimee Osbourne.

According to the document, Osbourne died of “(a) Out of hospital cardiac arrest (b) Acute myocardial infarction (c) Coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction (Joint Causes).” His occupation was listed on the certificate as “Songwriter, Performer and Rock Legend.”

Osbourne was 76 years old when he passed away on July 22. His family released a statement that read, “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning.”

“He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time,” the statement concluded. It was signed by his wife, Sharon Osbourne, and their children Aimee, Kelly, and Jack. Louis Osbourne, whom Ozzy shared with his ex-wife Thelma Riley, signed the statement as well.

Ozzy Osbourne Was Open About His Health Issues

While Osbourne’s death came as a shock to his fans, friends, and family, the Black Sabbath frontman had been struggling with various health issues over the years. In 2020 he opened up about the difficult year he’d experienced during an interview with “Good Morning America.”

“I did my last show New Year’s Eve at The Forum. Then I had a bad fall. I had to have surgery on my neck, which screwed all my nerves,” Osbourne explained while accompanied by his wife Sharon.

The rock legend also revealed he’d been sick with pneumonia and had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Sharon was quick to point out that the diagnosis was “not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination,” adding, “It’s like you have a good day, a good day, and then a really bad day.”

The Loss of Ozzy Osbourne Has Been Devastating

For fans the world over, the loss of Osbourne has been difficult, but his family is completely devastated. At the beginning of July, Osbourne performed his farewell concert with Black Sabbath, and seemed to be doing quite well.

On July 6, Osbourne’s daughter Kelly Osbourne shared a series of pics from the show on Instagram, captioned in part, “My dad got his moment in the sun! He was able to say thank you and good bye in the most beautiful way!”

But no one believed it would be his final goodbye. Sharon has been “heartbroken,” a source shared with People, but is surrounded by her children. “There’s a lot of pain, but also a lot of comfort from the family time that they got to enjoy up until the very end,” the source said.
