Steve Regal â Mr Electricity â Passes Away
Wrestling outlet PWInsider was the first to break the story, with the likes of People later confirming that Regal had died. According to reports, Regal died at the age of 73 on July 30 of this year.
Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he began his career in 1977 and had a successful career as light heavyweight and junior heavyweight wrestler. Regal was probably best known for his performances in the American Wrestling Association (AWA) but also wrestled for the NWA and WWF.
The National Wrestling Alliance subsequently confirmed the news in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter). The organization wrote, âThe National Wrestling Alliance is saddened to note the passing of former NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion âMr. Electricityâ Steve Regal.â
The statement continued, âDefeating Denny Brown for the title, this flashy and charismatic grappler reigned atop pro wrestlingâs junior heavyweight in 1986, paving a path for generations to come. The NWA extends its most sincere thoughts to Regalâs family, friends and fans during this time.â
Meanwhile, an obituary for the former wrestler revealed that he was now living in Greenwood, Indiana and confirmed the dates given in earlier reports. No cause of death was provided in the obituary.
It reads, âAs we bid farewell to this cherished soul, solace is taken in the memories held dear â the laughter shared, the wisdom imparted, the moments of quiet reflection in their presence. Though Stephen Michael may no longer walk among us, his spirit lives on in the echoes of his kindness, the warmth of his embrace, and the light of his enduring love.â
