Jorma Taccone is on the mend after a frightening accident that happened while celebrating his daughterâs fifth birthday. The TV comedian, actor, and writer, best known for his nine-year run on “Saturday Night Live” as part of The Lonely Island alongside Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer, updated fans on his health during the latest episode of “The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast.”

Phoning in from his hospital bed, Taccone joined Samberg, Schaffer, and Seth Meyers to share what happened.
âWeâve had an incident with one of our members that weâre gonna address right off the top,â Meyers said before handing it over to Taccone, who began recounting the ordeal with humor despite his pain.
A Fall During His Daughterâs Birthday Party

Taccone explained that the accident took place in August as he was painting a mural on the side of a barn for his daughterâs birthday celebration. He admitted he had borrowed a rickety ladder despite warnings.

âIâm probably 20 feet off the ground on this very rickety ladder⦠the base of the ladder is not good,â Taccone recalled. âIn this moment, my life flashes before my eyes. Iâm like, âOh no, Iâve got to get off this ladder.â I had enough time as Iâm falling to be like, âIâm going to die.ââ
Taccone said he fell straight onto his lower back, taking the full force of the impact. âThen I do a lot of screaming and cursing. Keep in mind, itâs my daughterâs fifth birthday party, so it wasnât the coolest way to start the day. Iâm like, âCall an ambulance!ââ
Severe Injuries & Long Recovery Ahead
The accident left Taccone with significant injuries, including a shattered pelvis, a damaged disc, and a detached sacrum, all requiring surgery. âIt takes a while to schedule the surgery because they wanted to do the front part and back part as well,â he explained.
His doctors have told him he may be able to walk again in three to six months. âSo we shall see,â Taccone said, noting that he currently requires assistance to stand. He is undergoing acute rehab and physical therapy as part of his recovery.
Finding Humor & Support Through the Pain
Despite the severity of his injuries, Taccone managed to joke about the experience with his longtime collaborators. âItâs definitely no joke, and itâs not the funniest way to start a podcast,â he said with a laugh.
His friends and co-hosts responded with heartfelt support. Akiva Schaffer told him, âWe love you, and you know weâve been worried sick.â
Taccone, who shares two children with wife Marielle Heller, said the experience has been life-changing, but he is grateful to be surrounded by love, humor, and encouragement as he heals.
