Meghan McCain on Motherhood and Mental Health
According to a 2024 Parents magazine article, McCain opened up about her early experiences with motherhood and the emotional toll it took after her first child was born.
She recalled the anxiety she felt when her daughter contracted COVIDâ19, saying, âIt was completely irrational, completely delusional thoughts ⦠I thought if I took her for a walk, that someone would push the carriage over and steal her or hurt her.â
McCain also pushed back on idealized portrayals of motherhood, urging for more transparency and honesty. âItâs 2024. Letâs evolve in the way we talk about women and motherhood.â
She reminded fellow mothers that becoming a parent doesnât mean losing oneâs sense of self. âYou’re not lobotomized … You’re still interested in everything you were interested in before you had a kid.â
