Frasier fans go wild over UK 80s TV legend’s unearthed cameo

Some Frasier fans have only just realized that a huge Harry Potter legend made a brief cameo in the emotional final episode.

The acclaimed sitcom followed stuffy radio psychiatrist Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) as he relocated back to his hometown of Seattle and reconnected with his brother, Niles (David Hyde Pierce) and their dad, Martin (John Mahoney).

The series ran for 11 seasons between 1993 and 2004 – and has aired countless times ever since – and in that time welcomed a number of huge names in guest-starring roles.

Laurie Metcalfe, Sir Patrick Stewart, Michael Keaton, Teri Hatcher and James Earl Jones appeared on screen over the years, while Jean Smart’s character nearly landed her very own spin-off.

However, one viewer spotted a very familiar face during a recent rewatch, noticing that Robbie Coltrane was actually a member of Daphne Moon’s illustrious family, starring as her incomprehensible brother, Michael.

Rushing to Reddit, Christorm747 couldn’t get enough of the fact that the late actor, who famously played Hagrid in the Harry Potter franchise, had once graced the doctor’s home in the series finale.

Posting pictures of Coltrane and Hagrid and Michael on the dedicated Frasier sub, Christorm747 wrote: ‘When I figured out that Michael Moon is Hagrid!

‘I know I’m pretty late to this. I just found this out. And I’m like super shocked lol.’

No-Visit-7707 heaped praise on the actor, penning: ‘He’s Hilarious! I absolutely love that you can barely, if at all, understand what he’s saying especially with the Chihuly bowl, yet I still understood.’

Recalling Coltrane’s stint as Hagrid, Tacoorpizza quipped: ‘“Fraisha… yer a wizard!”’

MantisGreenThumb shared their shock, yelling: ‘No! NO! What!? All these years and- wow!’

Amberopolis agreed: ‘UHMM WHAT …!?!?!?!! I’m a bit ashamed of myself for not knowing this but YAY FOR SHARING!! [sic].’

Impressive_Tailor_94 said: ‘Omg how did I never put this together?!’

As Bairdydev added: ‘He was actually quite famous here in the UK even before he did Harry Potter.

‘He did a show called Cracker, where he played a detective. He was also in an episode of Blackadder.’

Coltrane enjoyed a huge career on our screens before his death in 2022, at the age of 72.

The Scottish star began his career in sketch series Alfresco, alongside Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie and Emma Thompson, but his most iconic role will be remembered as Hagrid from Harry Potter.

Elsewhere, he landed parts in James Bond’s GoldenEye, Ocean’s Twelve, Blackadder, Cracker, Tutti Frutti and Are You Being Served?

Brian Cox also popped up as the Moon father in some episodes (Picture: NBC)

In Frasier, he made one appearance as one of Daphne’s many brothers, Michael – who lost a toe while being bowled over a lake as a child.

Coltrane wasn’t the only familiar member of Daphne’s family as their on-screen father was portrayed by Succession icon Brian Cox, while Richard E Grant played her other brother, Stephen.

Modern Family and Gilmore Girls star Millicent Martin had a recurring role as Moon matriarch, Gertrude, alongside Anthony LaPaglia, who played her obnoxious son, Simon.
