Fred Savage Shares Touching Tribute to Rob Reiner

Following the passing of director Rob Reiner, Fred Savage took to Instagram to post a touching tribute to his “The Princess Bride” friend and colleague. Reiner and his wife, Michele, were found deceased on Sunday, Dec. 14.

In the wake of the tragic event, heartfelt messages celebrating the life of the Hollywood icon continue to pour in online from friends, fans and family. 


Fred Savage’s Touching Instagram Tribute 

Savage posted a sweet photo to Instagram from the set of “The Princess Bride.” The picture shows a young Savage smiling alongside Reiner, who is perched in a director’s chair. Savage was only 11 years old when he took on the character of “the Grandson,” whose curiosity kicks off the film’s wild adventures. The role won him the Young Artist Award for Best Young Actor in a Motion Picture in 1987.

“He found me in a casting room in downtown Chicago and gave me the opportunity to be a part of something that has become so much bigger than anyone could have ever imagined,” wrote Savage in the caption of his photo, reflecting on Reiner and his hit film. “The Princess Bride” is widely considered to be a cult classic and receives critical acclaim to this day. 

“Who knew those two weeks in a bedroom set on the Shepperton Studio lot would last forever? His work was a gift to us all and I feel lucky to have been a part of it,” concludes the post. 

The comment section flooded with kind messages and heart emojis from fans and fellow industry members praising Reiner, Savage and “The Princess Bride.”


‘The Princess Bride’ Stars Remember Rob Reiner 

Following Reiner’s passing, cast and crew members from “The Princess Bride” took to the Internet to share their condolences and praise for the director. 

Cary Elwes, who plays a dual role in the film, posted his own photo from the set to his Instagram. The black and white picture shows Reiner’s director’s chair next to his own with the caption “No words…”

Mandy Patinkin, who starred as the iconic Inigo Montoya, released an official statement to PEOPLE mourning Reiner. He shared his experience working with the director, reflecting on a particular scene in “The Princess Bride” where Reiner directed him to “allow [his] broken heart to be felt.”

Patinkin encouraged readers to “Follow Rob’s example” and to “let Rob Reiner’s actions guide you.” 

He concluded the message with a touching thought: “When we’re feeling lost, say to ourselves what would Rob do and then do it, do it for Rob, do it for all of us?”
