
Following the passing of director Rob Reiner, Fred Savage took to Instagram to post a touching tribute to his âThe Princess Brideâ friend and colleague. Reiner and his wife, Michele, were found deceased on Sunday, Dec. 14.

Savage posted a sweet photo to Instagram from the set of âThe Princess Bride.â The picture shows a young Savage smiling alongside Reiner, who is perched in a directorâs chair. Savage was only 11 years old when he took on the character of âthe Grandson,” whose curiosity kicks off the filmâs wild adventures. The role won him the Young Artist Award for Best Young Actor in a Motion Picture in 1987.
âHe found me in a casting room in downtown Chicago and gave me the opportunity to be a part of something that has become so much bigger than anyone could have ever imagined,â wrote Savage in the caption of his photo, reflecting on Reiner and his hit film. âThe Princess Brideâ is widely considered to be a cult classic and receives critical acclaim to this day.Â
âWho knew those two weeks in a bedroom set on the Shepperton Studio lot would last forever? His work was a gift to us all and I feel lucky to have been a part of it,â concludes the post.

Following Reinerâs passing, cast and crew members from âThe Princess Brideâ took to the Internet to share their condolences and praise for the director.
Cary Elwes, who plays a dual role in the film, posted his own photo from the set to his Instagram. The black and white picture shows Reinerâs directorâs chair next to his own with the caption âNo wordsâ¦â
Mandy Patinkin, who starred as the iconic Inigo Montoya, released an official statement to PEOPLE mourning Reiner. He shared his experience working with the director, reflecting on a particular scene in âThe Princess Brideâ where Reiner directed him to âallow [his] broken heart to be felt.â
Patinkin encouraged readers to âFollow Robâs exampleâ and to âlet Rob Reinerâs actions guide you.â
He concluded the message with a touching thought: âWhen weâre feeling lost, say to ourselves what would Rob do and then do it, do it for Rob, do it for all of us?â
