A woman who was last week revealed as Freddie Mercury’s ‘secret love child’ took a DNA test to confirm her paternity.
After being diagnosed with AIDS in 1987, the lead singer of rock band Queen died from complications from the disease aged 45 in 1991.
Throughout his life Mercury – born Farrokh Bulsara – had relationships with both men and women, having once stated he was bisexual.
However a few days ago, 34 years after his death, it was revealed the musician allegedly fathered a child after having a brief fling with a friend’s wife.
In a new book titled Love, Freddie, written by biographer Lesley-Ann Jones, the so-called secret daughter, who was born in 1976 and is only referred to as ‘B’, speaks out for the first time.
After facing questions about the claims, Jones has shared a defiant message on social media.
‘To those “demanding” to see proof of a DNA test, otherwise they won’t believe it – please rest assured that the requisite verification was obtained, legal teams have been involved, but that such measures are private & not shared publicly. Thank you,’ she posted on X.
‘Before that comment, she had also shared: ‘I’m so grateful for all the love for my forthcoming book Love, Freddie! Pre-orders drove it to the top of THREE Amazon charts this w-e, & it’s not even out for another 12 weeks! Thank you all.
‘And to those insisting Freddie Mercury’s diaries were “faked with AI”, that his daughter “doesn’t exist! & that I’ve made the whole thing up: wait & see! His true story, told in his own words, is incredible. I love him all the more for it. You will too.’
It was previously believed only Mercury’s Queen bandmates, parents, sister, and former partner, Austin, knew about the child’s identity.
In the book B shares in a handwritten letter: ‘Freddie Mercury was and is my father.
‘We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the final 15 years of his life He adored me and was devoted to me.
‘The circumstances of my birth may seem, by most people’s standards, unusual and even outrageous.’
However, she went on to write that it ‘never detracted from his commitment to love and look after me’.
The woman, who is now aged 48 and works in medicine in Europe, said the decision to reveal herself was ‘my decision alone’.
She also claimed Mercury gave her 17 volumes of his personal journals before his death.
Although Jones said she was doubtful when B first reached out to her, the author told the Daily Mail she was ‘absolutely sure she is not a fantasist’.
She said the woman ‘never asked for money’ and ‘does not want recognition’.
