Sir Rod Stewart has lashed out at a fan who he slammed for ‘spoiling’ his latest show before asking them to leave.
The legendary singer, 80, is currently on his One Last Time Tour, which most recently saw him perform for the first time in Athens, Greece.
However, the milestone performance was halted after he started arguing with a concertgoer.
In video captured and shared on social media, Sir Rod was holding a football as his band played the music to his hit Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? inside the OAKA Sports Hall.
Speaking into the microphone, he chastised the audience member: ‘Out the f**king way. You’re spoiling the show for everybody. Out the way. Leave. We don’t need you here!
‘All she’s doing is putting up a sign. It’s not hurting you is it, mate?’ he added.
Then turning back to his band, Sir Rod told them: ‘OK, from the top, where we left off.’
The tense exchange was posted on TikTok by someone who attended the concert and captioned the clip: ‘Rod Stewart p****d off! What happened?’
Although it’s not clear what enraged the singer, some have speculated he was cranky after his beloved team Celtic was beaten 3-1 by St Mirren in the Scottish League Cup Final.
Some quipped that ‘somebody probably mentioned St Mirren’, while another added that ‘his team got beat 3-1 today’.
However, another claimed he’d stopped the show ‘because a security guy was disrespectful to a fan’.
Despite this, a concertgoer wrote that what unfolded ‘wasn’t a big deal’. ‘The whole show was amazing, and no one will remember this incident!’ they said.
Despite the brief disruption, the rest of the show went off without a hitch, with Sir Rod performing 25 songs in total, also including Young Turks, You Wear It Well and Hot Legs.
He will next perform in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday night, before having a break until February – when he will then pick up his tour in the United States.
Although Sir Rod shared his current tour would mark ‘the end of large-scale world tours’ when announcing it last year, he also doesn’t have any plans to retire.
‘This will be the end of large-scale world tours for me, but I have no desire to retire. I love what I do, and I do what I love,’ he wrote on Instagram.
‘I’m fit, have a full head of hair, and can run 100 meters in 18 seconds at the jolly old age of 79.’
Sir Rod then went on to share his aspirations for the next stage in his career: ‘I’d like to move onto a Great American Songbook, Swing Fever tour the year after next – smaller venues and more intimacy.’
Concluding the post, he then teased: ‘But then again, I may not…’. He signed off with ‘The Ambiguous Sir Rod Stewart’.
Last year Sir Rod admitted his ‘days were numbered’, but he still had plans to stick around for ‘probably another 15 years’.
‘I’m aware my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear. We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket. I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can. I say few — probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy,’ he told The Sun.
‘I’m not like I was in the ’70s and ’80s and I can’t stay up all night, get drunk and go mad and still have a voice just like that. Nowadays I have to protect my voice before and after every show.
‘But no, you think I just have water on my rider? You’re talking to Rod Stewart here, mate. We go mad after every show. There are 13 of us, six women, really great musicians and I make them drink. We absolutely love it.’
Earlier this year Sir Rod did leave fans concerned however after cancelling a series of shows due to illness, which came just weeks ahead of playing Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage for the legends slot.
He did however make it on stage in the end, delivering a jam-packed set for fans, also bringing out guests Mick Hucknall, Ronnie Wood and Lulu as special guests.
Metro has contacted representatives for Sir Rod Stewart for comment.
