A few days after the Gavin and Stacey finale, Mathew Horne’s next project has been revealed.

Beginning his performing career as part of comedy duo Mat and MacKinnon, his first TV appearance came on The Catherine Tate Show.

He went on to star in 20 Things to do Before You’re 30, Teachers and Doc Martin before being cast as Gavin Shipman in Gavin and Stacey, which hit screens in 2007.

It aired for three seasons until 2010, returning for a Christmas special in 2019 before the final ever episode was released earlier this week.

Since working on that series, he’s also collaborated with the show’s co-creator James Corden on sketch show Horne & Corden and comedy horror film Lesbian Vampire Killers.

However, his next career move after the conclusion of Gavin and Stacey is a somewhat unexpected one – he will be performing a DJ set in London to ring in the New Year.

The 46-year-old will be headlining a party at Electric Ballroom in Camden on December 31, with the event description reading: ‘What’s occurring London? For one night only, Propaganda is back at Electric Ballroom to throw one huge NYE party! With none other than Gavin and Stacey’s Mathew Horne joining as a special guest DJ!”

It continued: ‘The Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special may be the only thing on our wish list this year, but we promise this will be THE night to remember! Mathew Horne (Gavin) and DJ Dan (Oasis Aftershow DJ) will be bringing the bangers and vibes to ring in the new year and make you feel like you’re in the best party in Barry Island! Crackin.’

The performance comes a few weeks after Mathew suffered a head injury during a performance on the West End.

He is currently playing comical character Prospero in The Tempest at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane however earlier this month he was rolling on the floor as part of the play when he hit his head on a rock.

After the incident, which occurred ten minutes into the performance, the show was halted for 15 minutes and he was taken off stage, returning with a visible mark on his face.

However, the next day he appeared at an early screening for the Gavin and Stacey special.

The episode was a massive hit when it aired on Christmas Day, drawing an audience of 12.3 million viewers, becoming the most watched Christmas TV episode across all channels in over a decade.

Gavin and Stacey is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
