Gayle King Responds to Report She’s Leaving ‘CBS Mornings’

Is Gayle King really leaving 'CBS Mornings'?

Gayle King has been a host of CBS’s morning show, formerly called “CBS This Morning,” since 2011. On October 30, 2025, Variety ran a headline that read, “Gayle King Expected to Depart as ‘CBS Mornings’ Anchor Amid CBS News Overhaul.” The report, which the outlet called an “exclusive,” said King is “expected to depart as an anchor of that program next year,” citing four people with “knowledge of the situation.”

Now, the anchor has spoken out about the situation, saying she has no plans of leaving and isn’t aware of a plan by CBS to cut her from the show, and emphasized how much she loves her current job. Read on for her full reaction.

Gayle King Speaks Out to TMZ

The next morning, October 31, TMZ caught up with King herself to see what she had to say about the report. If King really is leaving the cast of “CBS Mornings,” it’s clear she has not yet been told. She said this to TMZ’s cameras as she exited the building where the show is filmed:

“All I can say is this. From what I’m being told inside this building, all I’ve been told by everybody in this building is that they want me here, they like the job I’m doing, I like the job I’m doing. I like the job with the people that I work with.”

She went on, “I don’t know what to tell you about it. What I’m hearing in the building is not what I’m reading in the press. And what I’m not gonna do is negotiate in the media. Not doing that!”

King was then asked by reporters if she knows anything about “what things might look like if the show is going in another direction.” She replied, “I have no idea. All I know is, I am here. I am here, and glad to be here.”

CBS Said They’ve Had ‘No Discussions With Gayle’

The same day the Variety report came out saying King was departing from the show, the network gave a statement to People, which said, “There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026. She’s a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about the future.”

The outlet pointed out there have been several recent layoffs at CBS, including Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson, the co-anchors of “CBS Saturday Mornings.”

They say the Los Angeles Times reported CBS correspondents and contributors Lisa Ling, Debora Patta, Janet Shamlian, Nancy Chen and Nikki Battiste have also been laid off.
