Gears Of War: E-Day targeting 2025 release date report claims

Microsoft is reportedly planning to launch both Fable and Gears Of War: E-Day next year, in what could be a stacked 2025.

While the Xbox Games Showcase was the standout presentation across Summer Game Fest this year, it was also the most vague in terms of release dates.

A large chunk of the games shown – from the Perfect Dark reboot, Doom: The Dark Ages, Fable, and State Of Decay 3 – were either given a broad 2025 window or nothing at all, suggesting some of these titles could still be several years away.

One of the most notable examples was Gears Of War: E-Day, which was announced without a whiff of when it could be released. A new report, however, suggests it might be set to come out sooner than expected.

According to The Verge’s Tom Warren, who is usually fairly reliable, Microsoft was targeting a release in 2025 for the Gears Of War prequel. He notes though that this information was from ‘a few months back’, so it ‘may have changed by now’.

The absence of any date in the trailer might suggest Microsoft is giving developer The Coalition more time, but Warren claims Microsoft was originally planning to release Gears Of War: E-Day ahead of Fable, which is believed to be targeting a release date ‘between October and December’ next year.

That part is surprising considering Fable was given a 2025 window at the Xbox Games Showcase, so there might be a chance that Gears Of War: E-Day does arrive at some point next year – even if Microsoft is being sheepish about it at the moment.

Alternatively, Microsoft may have pushed the title back to coincide with Gears Of War’s 20th anniversary in 2026, which also makes a lot of sense.

Even if it doesn’t arrive, 2025 is looking like a stacked year regardless. GTA 6 is expected to arrive next year, along with Nintendo’s next console, Monster Hunter Wilds, Death Stranding 2, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Gears Of War: E-Day, a prequel set 14 years before the original game, depicts the origins of the first Locust horde attack on Emergence Day. It’s essentially a soft reboot, with Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago back in the spotlight.

The Coalition previously developed the fourth and fifth entries in the series, while the original Gears Of War trilogy was created by Epic Games.
