Gibbs Is Back! Mark Harmon Returns in Special ‘NCIS: Origins’ Episode

<p id=”par-1_28″>An <em>NCIS </em>icon is back! Four years after he left the popular CBS show<em>, </em><a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/mark-harmon-revealed-thought-sasha-alexanders-ncis-departure.html/”>Mark Harmon</a> is returning to the franchise during a special <em>NCIS/NCIS: Origins </em>crossover event. </p>

<p id=”par-2_26″>Harmon will make a special guest appearance as Leroy Jethro Gibbs on the Tuesday, November 11, episode of <em>NCIS: Origins</em>, the network announced on October 28. </p>

<p id=”par-3_38″>In the crossover – which will air on Veterans Day – <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/austin-stowell-pulled-real-life-tragedy-play-leroy-gibbs-ncis-origins.html/”>young Gibbs (Austin Stowell)</a> and the team investigate the small-town death of a naval officer. The case is then unexpectedly re-opened in the present day on <em>NCIS</em>. </p>

<p id=”par-4_34″>The decades-spanning mystery requires a one-time change to the CBS schedule, with<em> NCIS: Origins</em> airing first at 8 p.m. ET/PT, followed by <em>NCIS </em>at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The episodes will also stream on Paramount+. </p>

<p id=”par-5_21″>Gibbs’ return will hopefully answer fan questions about what happened after he left NCIS for Alaska early in season 19. <em> </em></p>

<p id=”par-6_89″>“Four years ago, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/ncis-filming-mark-harmon-final-episode-alaska-risky-bet.html/”>Gibbs disappeared to Alaska</a> to live a life of solitude,” said <em>NCIS: Origins </em>co-showrunners and executive producers David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal. “We know how much fans have missed seeing Mark and have wondered what Gibbs is up to today. Well, on November 11, we’re so excited to announce that Mark Harmon will return as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the <em>Origins</em> hour of the <em>NCIS</em> crossover event. We don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say Gibbs is no longer alone.”</p>

<p id=”par-7_30″>Harmon isn’t giving away any spoilers either, but he said he was persuaded to return to the show after North and Monreal came up with a compelling storyline for Gibbs. </p>

<p id=”par-8_57″>“I’m very proud of the storytelling that David and Gina are doing on <em>Origins</em>,” Harmon said. “They continue to push boundaries and dive deeper into the characters’ backstories. They came to me with an idea for Gibbs that I liked, and it seemed like a good time to check in with him. I hope fans enjoy it.”</p>

<p id=”par-9_30″>Harmon narrates each episode of the <em>NCIS </em>prequel series. He also appeared briefly in the show’s 2024 pilot. He and his son, Sean Harmon, are executive producers of <em>NCIS: Origins. </em></p>
