Gladiators star Steel has shared the heartbreaking news that his baby son has died.

The athlete, 34, shared the news on Instagram just days after revealing his wife Samantha George had given birth to their second child.

Baby Leo was born at 23 weeks, weighing less than two pounds.

Zack has now taken to Instagram, thanking his son for bringing them a ‘lifetime of love’ as he shared the tragedy.

He wrote: ‘Your mummy brought you into this world and your daddy held you as you left ♥️

‘Leo…… you showed us what the true definition of strength is and we are so proud of you.

‘You brought so much positivity to the world with the short time you were with us and we felt that positivity in abundance, we thank you all so much for that.

The BBC star was showered in support from fans and friends alike with Gladiators’ Jodie Ounsley writing: ‘My heart genuinely breaks for you both, sending big hugs.’

Safiyya Vorajee, who shared daughter Azaylia with Ashley Cain, said: ‘my heart feels your pain I’m so so sorry for your loss, please be gentle with yourselves and your baby Leo will always be shining bright guiding you as your guardian angel 👼 all my love.’

Zack and Samantha, who wed last year, also share daughter Ivy.

Earlier this week, Zack revealed on Instagram that his son was ‘tiny, fragile and fighting’, writing:  ‘Our Precious Boy Leo George.

‘You should still be tucked up inside mummy’s tummy but instead you entered the world on the 26th March 2025 at just 23 weeks weighing one pound eight ounces.

‘You never truly know how quickly your life can be turned upside down but one thing we do know is that you are one hell of a strong boy and you are already defying the odds.

‘Tiny, fragile and fighting.’

Sands UK charity

Sands UK is a stillbirth and neonatal death charity, which works to reduce the number of babies dying and to ensure that those affected by the loss of a baby receives the best possible care for as long as they need it.

The charity aims to better understand the causes of baby deaths and works with governments and other organisations to raise awareness of issues surrounding baby loss.

Sands provides bereavement support at a local and national level.
