‘Good Morning America’ Says Goodbye to Times Square After 26 Years

Good morning, Hudson Square!  After 26 dazzling years lighting up Times Square with sunrise smiles and breaking news, “Good Morning America” is turning a brand-new, but exciting page.

On June 9, 2025, ABC’s beloved morning show kicked off its final week inside its iconic glass-walled studio overlooking Broadway. And in case you were wondering, yes, emotions were high! For cast members, crews, and even the audience!

Reflecting on his first day, which took place in 2009, George Stephanopoulos stated, “It was so long ago that I can’t even imagine what it must have been. One of my first interviews was with David Axelrod, who was working in the White House at the time with President [Barack] Obama. They sent me a big alarm clock for my first day.”

If that doesn’t scream “TV legend origin story,” we don’t know what does.

Hudson Square Is Calling ‘Good Morning America’

The show’s new home will be at ABC’s downtown headquarters in Hudson Square. It’s the same buzzing Manhattan district now that houses other ABC shows like “The View” and “Live with Kelly and Mark.” And while the move is part of a larger ABC daytime real estate shakeup, it’s still a seismic shift for longtime viewers and cast alike.

“It never gets old to say, ‘Good morning, America,’” Roberts said in a heartfelt Instagram video, reflecting on the move. “I remember thinking, ‘I’m a little girl from Mississippi and I’m working in Times Square.’ It’s just so majestic.”

Roberts, along with Stephanopoulos, Michael Strahan, and Ginger Zee, will continue anchoring the show in its sleek new digs. So yes, don’t expect any on-air shakeups, just a change of scenery.

Phew!

Still the ‘GMA’ You Know and Love

Despite the big move, the “GMA” star team is sticking together. Strahan, who joined full-time in 2016, took viewers down memory lane. He recalled how overwhelmed he felt walking into the Times Square studio as a guest anchor back in 2013.

“The bright lights, the personality, the energy, how intimidated I was when I walked through the door,” he said. “A lot of thoughts were going through my mind.”

And let’s not forget Zee, who joined the weekday team in 2023 after rising through the weekend ranks. “My first time in Times Square, coming to this studio, was magical,” she said. “I pulled up at the stoplight on 44th, I just remember looking up and thinking, ‘This cannot be my life.’”

But now, with Hudson Square’s state-of-the-art facilities and a cozier, more modern setting, the “GMA” team is ready to start a new chapter! Of course, still waking up the country, one headline (and coffee sip) at a time.

Friday, June 13, will mark the final live broadcast from the Times Square location. Don’t worry, ABC is promising a week full of nostalgic tributes and behind-the-scenes memories. For longtime fans, it’s the end of an era, but not the end of “GMA.”

So, whether you’re tuning in from your kitchen, your couch, or a cab stuck in traffic, stay calm; “Good Morning America” isn’t going anywhere.

Except, you know, just a little farther downtown.
