Green Day hits back at Charli XCX’s Coachella headliner dig

Green Day drummer Tré Cool seemingly hit back at Charli XCX by sporting an Actual Headliner sash at Coachella this weekend.

The pop singer, 30, started the apparent feud last week when she wore a sash that read ‘Miss Should Be Headliner’ at a party following her 7 pm Coachella performance on the Main Stage.

Her set was just before Green Day’s headline slot, so some people felt that the sash was a direct dig at the iconic 00s band.

This weekend, a photo of the drummer for the American Idiot hitmakers made the rounds online, seemingly depicting Tre Cool wearing a sash that reads ‘Actual Headliner.’

The pic appears to have been taken backstage at the festival, captured by Cool’s wife Sara Rose Wright.

Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong also made it clear he’d seen Charli’s sash, asked to borrow a cap from a member of the audience and putting it on during the set.

It soon became apparent the cap was lime green and read ‘BRAT.’, the name of Charli’s hit album from summer 2024.

Many social media users took issue with Charli’s original sash, with X user @toronodon writing: ‘You have to be terminally online to think she should be a headliner over Green Day…and I like Charli’

@iThinkSamKnows agreed: ‘Now she wants to beef with green day ok whatever.’

@groovyjinx3d posted: ‘She is NOT bigger than green day😭😭’

But other people were on Charli’s side, with @KingDomin0 responding to an image of Cool’s sash with: ‘Bold move for someone who’s been churning out nothing but Mid or bad music for for (at least) the past 15 years.’

@babywuchki wrote: ‘He should realize his time is up. greenday lucked out into a good run but they have literally zero classics…’
