Greg Biffle & 6 Other People Pass Away in Plane Crash – Families Share Loving Statement

On Thursday, December 18, it was reported that a small private plane had “exploded into a fireball while landing in inclement weather at Statesville Regional Airport in Statesville,” People reports. 

The crash claimed seven lives, and the identities of the passengers were later shared publicly. Those who died were NASCAR legend Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina Grossu Biffle, their young son Ryder, and Biffle’s daughter Emma from his relationship with ex-wife Nicole Lunders. The other passengers have been named as Dennis Dutton and his son Jack, and Craig Wadsworth, People reports. The families of those impacted by the plane crash have released a statement expressing their heartache. 

Heartbroken Families Share Statement on Their Loved Ones

The Biffle family had been on their way to Florida for a birthday celebration when the tragic incident occurred. “We are devastated by the loss of our loved ones. This tragedy has left all of our families heartbroken beyond words,” the statement from the Biffle, Grossu, Dutton, and Lunders families reads. It was shared on X by Fox Sports motorsports reporter Bob Pockrass. 

The message also shares a bit about each family, highlighting who they were and the impact they had on those who loved them. “Greg and Cristina were devoted parents and active philanthropists whose lives were centered around their young son Ryder and Greg’s daughter Emma (mother – Nicole Lunders),” the statement reads. “Emma was a wonderful human being with a kind soul who was loved by many people. Ryder was an active, curious and infinitely joyful child.”

Of the Duttons and of Wadsworth the message reads, “Dennis Dutton and his son Jack were deeply loved as well, and their loss is felt by all who knew them. Craig Wadsworth was beloved by many in the NASCAR community and will be missed by those who knew him.” The families asked for privacy while they were grieving.

“What a dark day for the sport,” another fan shared. “Biffle was an outstanding race car driver, but he was an even better human being. He helped out with hurricane relief more than the government did on his own dime. Delivered them personally with his own fleet. Rest in peace to all involved.” 

Fans also remarked on what a wonderful, giving family the Biffles were. “So heartbreaking. Besides his Nascar career, he volunteered so much time, money, and effort to assist and rescue the people in Ashville and the Carolinas,” a third fan shared. “He was a good man, and my heart breaks for his whole family.”
