Your next Irish crime drama obsession is just hours away from being released on a free UK streaming platform.

The entire box set of the dark drama The Vanishings will be available on My 5 tonight after the first two episodes air on Channel 5 at 9pm.

The six-parter is inspired by true stories from Ireland’s Vanishing Triangle, an area roughly within the boundaries of Lenister where several women mysteriously disappeared from the 80s to the late 90s.

The case remains unsolved today, with the main hypothesis being that the women, who all vanished inexplicably, were murdered by a serial killer active in the area.

In The Vanishings, journalist Lisa Wallace, played by Normal People star India Mullen, investigates the disappearance of young women, believing the perpetrator is the same man who killed her mother 20 years earlier.

The synopsis reads: ‘After publishing an article about her mother’s murder, Journalist Lisa Wallace gets a chilling letter from the killer, taunting her with pictures of the murder and of a new victim.

‘Soon, news comes of Amy Reynolds, a woman who’s gone missing. Lisa and Detective David Burkely begin fighting through Garda red tape as more girls go missing.

‘Meanwhile, the killer plays psychological torture games with Lisa, making her choose his victims and even threatening her in person. Lisa and David’s path leads them into the crosshairs of the deeply corrupted core of the Garda.

‘To cover their tracks, high-ranking Garda members blackmail David with
his own secrets. This threatens to destroy them both as they get closer to facing off with the killer who murdered Lisa’s mother all those years ago.’

The Vanishings is not the only Irish crime drama that could be your next binge-watch.

TV fans have been raving about Love/Hate, which has a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score and is available to watch for free on ITVX.

The crime drama, created by Irish TV network RTÉ, is set in Dublin and follows the gangland tension in the Irish capital’s criminal underworld.

Elsewhere, @DeanoRifles said that, after being told to watch the series by his followers, he was pleased to report that they were indeed correct.

‘You were [all] so right! Bloody nice one, everyone! Highly recommend this to anyone else who hasn’t seen it.’

Based on a true story, it stars Charlene McKenna as Shelly Mohan, a suburban housewife and mother-of-three who appears to have it all.

However, when her past catches up and her old-partner-in-crime resurfaces and threatens the life she has built, she resorts to murder.

Her treachery becomes further complicated when her husband Jason (Barry Ward), a detective who has no idea about her involvement, gets assigned the case.

‘There are a lot of true crime adaptations out there, so it’s easy to overlook some good ones because so many are mediocre. I stumbled onto this one because the situation, which is based on a crazy murder case that really happened, captured my curiosity. Talk about dark things lying beneath the mundane surface!’ Marc shared on Reddit.

‘I don’t give 5 stars often, but this show merits more attention so I’m giving it some!’ he added.

The Vanishings starts on Channel 5 tonight at 9pm after which all episodes will be added to My5.
