After 20 years, Baby V.O.X. have finally returned with all band members taking to the stage at the KBS Song Festival.
The group, formed in 1997, are credited as one of the first K-Pop phenomenons to break through outside of Korea.
The best-known line up consisted of Kim E-Z, Lee Hee-jin, Kan Mi-youn, Shim Eun-jin, and Yoon Eun-hye, with the band releasing seven studio albums before they disbanded in 2006.
Baby V.O.X. dropped their first record on July 10, 1997, with their early style often compared to the Spice Girls.
Equalizeher featured a feminist message and an edgier look for the five women, blending R&B and American pop styles with Korean pop sound.
They were also known for being the first K-Pop girl group to lean on their sex appeal, which proved controversial at the time.

Shortly after the release of their first album, original members Jung Hyun-jeon, Cha Yu-mi and Jung Shi-woon exited the group due to internal conflict.
Shim Eun Jin and Kan Miyoun joined after this initial release, with the group rebranding in a more modest style after the first album struggled.
Their second album proved more successful as single Ya Ya Ya debuted at number seven on the Korean pop charts.
A huge scandal then hit Baby V.O.X. as Lee Gai who had been brought in to replace the exited bandmates was forced out of the group for lying about her age.
She was in her 30s at the time, having been in a successful girl group previously under the name Lee Heejung, which caused outrage among fans.
The group’s final album in 2004, Ride West, featured vocals from American stars like Jennifer Lopez and Tupac Shakur.
However, Baby V.O.X. faced more controversy as the Tupac feature was a freestyle rap he had recorded in prison and the sample rights were not cleared.

They were forced to ditch the release after his mother, Afeni Shakur, took them to court.
The Jennifer Lopex single, Play Remix, did get released but the song didn’t have as much success as previous albums.
By 2005, Baby V.O.X. were no longer promoting new music and officially disbanded the next year.
They made a brief appearance on the music talk show Kim Jung-eun’s Chocolate in 2010 but hadn’t performed together in over a decade.
After 20 years, the five stars reunited for Korean Broadcasting System (KBS)’s annual music festival for a performance during the 2024 show.
It’s unclear if any new music is planned after this special performance where they performed number one singles Get Up and Coincidence.
The performance featured a collaboration performance of the song Killer with Kiss of Life, a new girl group formed last year.
