Gwyneth Paltrow Admits to ‘Regret’ She Had Before Marrying Brad Falchuk

Whether you choose to be one and done or have enough kids to create your own soccer team, the number of kids you decide to have is a very personal decision. For some, the choice is taken out of their hands, which can be devastating. For Gwyneth Paltrow, marrying Brad Falchuk helped alleviate her regret about not having more children after Apple and Moses were born.

She Spent Years Wishing She’d Had More Kids

On a recent episode of her Goop Podcast, Paltrow and her husband, Falchuk, discussed the positive and negative aspects of step-parenting. “I get so much joy out of my relationship with your children,” she said in regard to the positives. “They mean so much to me; they have such different personalities to my own kids.”

During the conversation, she mentioned wishing for more children. “My dad used to say the only regret he had in his entire life was not having more kids,” Paltrow said. And I felt like that for a long time until I got yours too. I got to tack on more.”

“You get to create something new and beautiful out of something uncomfortable,” Paltrow said about fusing their families together. “Everybody in our family had the agency to help co-create what we were doing.

Gwyneth Paltrow Makes Confession About Stepparenting

“I never had a clear opportunity to ascend to my highest self more than in my role as a stepmother,” Paltrow told Falchuk. “Because it required a mastery over my own impulses, my own damage, my own weaknesses, my ego — all the things. I had to actively talk to myself, to remind myself to be the adult at all times, and there were a few moments that were really, really hard.”

She and Falchuk went on to discuss the difficulties of slipping into the role of stepparent while respecting the parent not in the home. While she regarded it as a “tricky” time of adjustment, she was thrilled when she discovered she, Falchuk, his kids, and her kids had finally become a blended family. “The girls were graduating, and it started to just feel really light and really cohesive,” she said of the moment. “And since then, we’ve had so many moments like that.”

“And I feel like it keeps deepening and getting, I don’t know, it’s such a particular kind of delight to see our four kids in their own relationships and being friends with each other and loving each other,” she continued.
