Halle Berry plays by the rules at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, following a new set of guidelines issued ahead of the event. The award-winning actress was forced to do a last-minute outfit change to comply with the stricter dress policy.
For decency reasons, “nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival,” according to the Cannes website FAQ. Voluminous outfits, especially those with a large train, are not permitted as well.
Halle Berry’s Last-Minute Outfit Change

At the Cannes jury press conference, Berry shared that she was forced to make a last-minute outfit change to comply with the new policy at the Cannes Film Festival, per Variety.
I had an amazing dress by [Gaurav] Gupta to wear tonight, and I cannot wear it because the train’s too big. I had to make a pivot. But the nudity part I do think is probably also a good rule.
Berry, who also serves as a festival jury member this year, wore a simple yet stunning black-and-white striped halter dress with a pink ruffle accent in the back.
While Berry may have toned down her look for the Cannes Film Festival, she was turning heads on the red carpet just last week. The “John Wick” actress left little to the imagination with her barely there dress at the 2025 Met Gala.
Designer LaQuan told Variety that dressing Berry for the event was a very special opportunity for him. He added:
To create this look for her at the Met Gala, on a night that celebrates Black excellence and craftsmanship, feels like a full-circle moment. As a Black designer, dressing someone whoâs broken so many barriers and continues to lead with grace means everything.
Celebs Who Ignore The New Cannes Dress Code

Meanwhile, some celebrities who attended the Cannes Film Festival 2025 failed to follow the new rules. Heidi Klum graced the red carpet in an eye-catching Elie Saab gown.
The pink floral dress featured multiple layers of organza designed to mimic floral petals. The strapless showstopper also has a leg-baring side slit and floor-grazing train.
Wan QianHui also arrived in a dramatic cream tulle ball gown with large, ruffled layers and a massive train.
While the two celebrities were not apprehended by security at the event, it was stated on the Cannes website that the “welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit Red Carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”
For this year’s event, the permitted attire includes “a little black dress, a cocktail dress, a dark-colored pantsuit, a dressy top with black pants; a black or navy blue suit with bow-tie or dark-colored tie.”
