ââThe âHarry Potterâ film franchise lives on and continues to evolve, capturing the interest of younger generations. The original characters have been recast for an upcoming HBO “Harry Potter” series, proving just how popular the wizarding world is. But wouldnât it be great if just one of the original âHarry Potterâ actors reprised their role again?
The answer to that question is yes, it would be great. Tom Felton is making original âHarry Potterâ fansâ dreams come true thanks to his latest role.
What Is Tom Feltonâs Latest Role on Broadway?
It was announced on Instagram on June 5 that Felton would be joining the cast of âHarry Potter and the Cursed Childâ on Broadway. A short video clip shows him looking cool with his signature platinum blond hair as he puts on rings and takes out his wand. In the caption, the actor shared his thoughts, writing, âGuess whoâs back. The announcement has been met with great excitement. It marks the first time Felton will be playing Draco Malfoy in 15 years. Reactions to the post include, âOh my Dumbledore what is happening⦠this is incredible,â and âWe NEED him as Lucius Malfoy in the News Harry Potter Series. Thereâs no one better than him for that character.â
Feltonâs inclusion in the Broadway show will run for 19 weeks, starting on November 11, 2025, and ending on March 22, 2026, at the Lyric Theatre in New York City.
What Has Tom Felton Said About Rejoining the âHarry Potterâ Universe?
Felton discussed his decision to join the Broadway show in an interview with Today on June 5.
âItâs very much a pinch-me situation,â Felton told Today. âI keep thinking Iâm dreaming. I let go of that character 16 years ago, and now I get to step back into his shoes, as a father this time, in a new story.â
Felton played the role of Draco Malfoy in the original films, alongside Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. He was just 12 years old when he first signed on as Draco. And now, at 37, his character will be different.
âThe play is such an independent story from the Potter films that I grew up with,â he said. âWe start 19 years later ⦠now weâre no longer children. We actually are the parents. So as much as it is reprising an old role for me, itâs very much treading into new, unfamiliar territory. I know him quite well as a kid. I donât know him that well as an adult. So that’s the exciting challenge ahead for me.â
This is not the only time Felton has expressed his excitement about being recast as Draco. âBeing a part of the âHarry Potterâ films has been one of the greatest honors of my life,â Felton said, Variety reports. âJoining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in âCursed Childâ this fall, Iâll also be the exact age Draco is in the play. Itâs surreal to be stepping back into his shoes.” Now all that’s left is to be redirected to the ticket sales page, right?!
